curious about the age of TT and 5'ersand buses
Reading all the posts and stuff through the forum got me wondering what is the averge age of a Trailer before people upgrade and the life span of one if you keep it and stay up on all maintenace. Seems like there are not many "older" ones on the forum...Of course this is just Keystone, one of many forums out there..

First fiver was an '89 Terry Resort. New in '89 lost in a flood in '96
Next fiver was a '96 Terry ...Kept it a year but didn't like the interior colors.
Next was a '97 Jayco Eagle, would probably still have it, but after yanking it across the country in '09 with my old truck we downsized to current rig. New in 2012, no intentions of trading again.

It's 100 % about care and maintenance. At some point every RV will leak somewhere and have other issues that if you want it working right must be fixed. At least that's my experience. My opinion about older RVs. People buying them do not worry about the stuff that people buying new worry about. I see a lot of hillbilly type fixs or no repairs on people using older RVs. As far as how long will they last as long as they are taken care of. Just like the family car.

Had an 03 Homestead that we bought in 09. It was like new, lost it in 2011 to hail. Went to an 08 Jayco, it also was like new, traded in 2014 for the Alpine. So for us, 6 years and still like new for the ones we've had. I have no doubt they could last 15 to 20 years or more with regular routine maintenance.

After spending some time in Florida this past winter I came away amazed at the number of people that stay. They install permeate waste lines, skirting, and awning tie downs. Almost daily the mobile RV repair crew would be in the park fixing something. Yes, there were a lot of older unites, but nicely kept. I think the Montana is the 5th wheel of choice.
FYI the avg. yearly rate is about $3200.00 + Electric

In my opinion, it seems that they degrade about twice as quick as vehicle. My last truck was 12 years old when I traded it in. My friend had a 2006 Prowler he picked up used in 2014. It seemed pretty worn at the time. I've noticed that after one year on my Passport, the front is very chalky and decal colors have gotten distorted. Overall, its a personal thing. My personal opinion is to keep vehicles for about 10 years and TT for 5.
On another note, I sold a 21 year old boat before I got the TT. It was in great condition for the age. Things are just built differently.
