I can't remember where I read it and I can't find it now, but from what I remember, the freezer compartment walls are made of a "high heat transfer aluminum alloy". That means that they will corrode very easily and once started, it's hard to stop.
From my corrosion control days, the surface primer used to "seal" the aluminum is "zinc chromate". I'd suggest getting the freezer to room temperature, cleaning well with alcohol, apply a coat of zinc chromate primer with a cotton Q-tip, then once that's dry (a couple hours) apply a surface coat of enamel appliance touchup paint.
I'll keep looking for that Dometic service manual, but it's not on my computer, so I must have read it on an internet site somewhere. Maybe Bryant RV ?? If I find it I'll post the link.
