Plug in with no batteries?

I pull my batteries out during winter. But I would like to leave the fiver plugged in so the outlets work. Would this be okay to do?

Re: Plug in with no batteries?

I would also be interested to know. I thought there had to be a load (battery) for the invertor to work properly.

Re: Plug in with no batteries?

I also pull my batteries (6 volt) during winter storage, but typically don't apply electric power to the trailer while in storage. According to WFCO, unless you're going to operate a leveling system, slides or other "heavy use" electrical component, you don't need a battery installed.

Here is the WFCO FAQ response to the question:

Does the converter need a battery to operate?

No. The battery works in conjunction with the converter to supply DC power to the RV. A battery is typically only necessary if you do a lot of dry camping or have slide-outs and/or a leveling system.

Here's the link to the entire FAQ section: http://wfcoelectronics.com/faq/

Re: Plug in with no batteries?

A converter doesn't really know or care if there is a battery. It just sees a load or not. (Actually, some have smarts to know... but that is from the type of load.) In any case, a load is a load. Some are just bigger than others.

Don't forget to protect the battery terminals. They are connected to the converter and will have potential (voltage).
