Road trip to Zion Utah

Plan on a trip to Zion Utah, will be leaving from the San Jose California area heading south and cutting over toward Las Vegas when to Zion. Any of you good people out there know of any good RV parks to stop for a day or two?
Thank you in advance

Cannonville/Bryce Valley KOA is really a beautiful setting (10 miles from the entrance to Bryce NP and sandwiched between Bryce and Grand Staircase-Escalante and Capitol Reef National Monuments). It's off the beaten path from the interstate but 95 miles from Zion. Hurricane KOA is the closest to Zion. We've never stayed there, but I bet it's nice. We've stayed at the Cedar City KOA (along the interstate-okay but not our favorite). I'm sure there are lots of other private campgrounds (we're just KOA people). There are also campgrounds in the park (check for availability-very busy) and places to boondock in the area. Enjoy your trip - so much to see and do in that part of Utah.

There's a place in Hurricane called Willowinds or similar. We stayed there last month. Nice facilities, lots of shade which you'll want. We would go back there without question. Only not in June/July/August. I hope you like heat.

Near Zion

We stayed at WillowWind Rv Park in Hurricane a couple of months ago for a week while we explored the area and went into Zion. While the spaces in the section we were in were kind of close, we would definitely go back, but would probably choose an outer perimeter spot for more room. Not sure what the weather may be like right now, but there are lots of trees in the park.
If you do visit the area of Hurricane, or if you stay there, try a wood fired pizza from the roadside stand on the main street called The Pizza Wagon-great!
Also, definitely worth a visit is Bryce Canyon!
Have a great trip!

I wouldn't miss Bryce Canyon as you are passing so close on that route. I would recommend staying right in Bryce National Park campground at least for one full day at either Sunset or North campground.

The places outside the Park are Outside the Park! We were concerned about not having a reserved spot and when calling to the campgrounds outside they all led us to believe we had better reserve or be left out. When we saw how far out they were we were relieved we hadn't booked.
You can call the Park Service for information on availability. I don't remember if they take ANY reservations at all but we were there two years ago in the height of the season and were told to arrive before noon. There was no problem finding a site, there are many that are first come first serve.

When we come out of SoCal we do our first leg to get past Las Vegas. If we don't make it we stop off at Circus Circus for the night at their RV park, nothing more than a big paved lot but convenient and clean. Full hook-ups and on the Strip.
If we do make it past Vegas we pull up behind the Virgin River Hotel and Casino in Mesquite Nevada. There is a huge dirt parking area out back where they let RV's pull in and stay for free. There are Many Many that do, some for days at a time. Just a big smoky old casino but a decent restaurant and a Starbucks coffee.
We don't bother to unhitch. We spend the night, have breakfast and on our way. Both Bryce and Zion within easy reach from there. FYI there is a CW in St George Utah if you happen to need one.
Just keep in mind we are seat of our pants travelers and don't need much to be comfortable.

We stayed in Iceberg Canyon , a state park in St George , worth finding , then drove to Zion . One of the loveliest places I've stayed and I've been to many.
Surrounded by Red cliffs and each site had a cabana . Great country . Bart

Howdy,

I googled around and could not find Iceberg Canyon State Park, could you mean Snow Canyon State Park?

Snow Canyon

We love camping in the southwest, especially Utah.

We camped, in our tent, on the Virgin River in Zion, when the kids were little... marvelous!

Can't wait for a trip out that way in the 22RBPR

If you do make it to Snow Canyon you really have to like closeness if you choose an electric spot. An Airstream will fit because it doesn't have slides. Others will have difficulty as the poles for power and the built in shade huts are so close. We looked at our spot we had reserved and didn't use it. Pulled out after one day on the top because the road is very busy. It is an urban park where people drive for the view and they have regular cycle groups every weekend. We thought to drive to the top of the park when leaving and annoyed about 100 cyclists because we could not pass them on blind curves.

Been to Snow Canyon as well and agree with your review. I'm thinking that place was built when all campers where smaller and didn't have slideouts. If you look carefully at the roofline of those shade huts hundreds of campers must have scraped them. I didn't but it was by dumb luck not driving skill.

There trailsystem was just OK, nice scenery but trail markings on the longer trails where non existent. My wife and I were lost many times....

The non electric sites (all 3 of them) where much nicer..

Coming a little late to this thread; however, I've been to Zion NP twice and both times stayed at Zion RV Resort. It is just down the road from the entrance. Very nice. The sites are paved and level along with 30 and 50 amp hook up's. Each site has a picnic table, fire ring and landscaped with grass and trees. They have showers for guests (I think only three) and a laundry mat as well as a pool and souvenir shop in their office. As far as Bryce NP goes, we stayed at Ruby's inn, which you can google, and it was nice. There's even a bus stop located at the entrance to Ruby's Inn that will take you to all of the stops in Bryce. You can also sign up for a bus tour called The Sunshine Tour I believe and it is free. This tour you must reserve in advance. Sign up's are done at the main visiting center in Bryce and the great thing about it is the bus picks you up right at the entrance of Ruby's Inn as well. The only downside is that the little tourist trap that you have to drive through to get to Ruby's Inn and Bryce NP. Everything is priced high but there is no other stores to shop at unless you want to travel back to the nearest town which I believe is Panguitch and I believe it's like some 10 miles away back the way you came. We were in Bryce in July and it wasn't too warm but the temp did drop at night. Zion NP was quite the opposite. In July it was quite warm and humid during the day and at night it cooled off a bit but not enough. We ran our a/c while we were in Zion the whole time. Regardless, you'll have great time. Enjoy. If you're physically inclined, you can't leave Zion without walking the Angel's Landing trail as well as The Narrows. Both are to die for.
