Outdoor rug storage
After cleaning the grass and sand out of the storage area AGAIN , I set out to find a better place to store my 9' x 12' patio rug. There's a lot of empty space between the frame and the skirting, so I found a piece of lattice laying around and cut it to fit a section of this empty space. I put a bungee strap to keep the rug from wiggling out while traveling.

Not for me. Mine gets shaken out, rolled and bagged and put in the front passthrough.

I clean the rug and then it goes in a bag zippered bag I got from CW. Haven't had a problem yet. I do however love your idea as it would free up some storage space.

Buy an 8 ft
8ft wide x 16 long rolls and ties to rear bumper in 10 minutes tops. Had the same rug 3 years and many stops along the thousands of miles. Never moved at any time, bumpy roads, storms, high winds.....no problem.
That thing is the least of my travel concerns

After folding and rolling mine up this morning after a 5-day stay, your idea is really appealing. How do you think it'll hold up against road grime?

I like your idea. I usually store ours under the bed but never liked the idea. I think that's a good job for me this week

It's in front of the wheels. I don't see any evidence of road grime on the frame where it's mounted. I was also having a problem with it being wet when it was time to pack up. Like most of my other mods, it's always learn as you go. If it doesn't work out, I'll post a follow-up so everyone can learn from my mistakes. Most of my mods are ideas I get from others in this forum.

Great use of space although I'd be concerned about the wood getting soft at some point so check it once in awhile for integreity.
I once saw a camper with a very large white tube on the back, mounted to the square bumper tube. Musta been 10"-12" inside diameter. Waited to see what he pulled out of it and it was his patio mat, all rolled up. Thought it was a great idea. Said he never had to worry about it being damp or dirty.

CincyGus, that's the white plastic lattice. I might even steal that idea for storing other lightweight stuff.

That was probably a 10" or 12" piece of round PVC Pipe. With a screw in end cap on one end? We made one for Dad's Jayco out of a 10" piece of white PVC Pipe that was 7' long to hold his rug. One end we used a solid end cap and the other end of the pipe was threaded and we used a threaded end cap that screwed in.
It does work great for holding that rug.. We clamped it on to the front storage box with some big U-bolts.
I have also seen people use a Conduit carrier to transport their rug as well. Conduit carriers come in many sizes and lengths and are not that expensive. You can even buy kits to turn a piece of PVC pipe into one.

Great idea. Opens up a lot of additional storage!

Yes, it had the screw in end caps. I thought it was a fantastic solution because it was so big, you could use it for an awful lot of different size stuff. Going Boon docking and not need the carpet? Load up the fishing poles or fire wood or something else trip specific.
