RV Toilet Paper Alternative

I typically pickup Scott RV Toilet Paper at a local Walmart before I go camping. I'm heading out tomorrow with a limited amount in the camper. I started to look for any RV toilet paper last Thursday, but the panic shoppers have snagged it up. I have toilet paper at home, but don't want to use it. Is there any regular toilet paper that is RV friendly?

Over the years of rving we have found any that says septic tank friendly has been what we use. No problems with dumping the black tank. YMMV

20 years of RV camping all I have ever used is,..... what happened to be on hand in the house.

As a "temporary work around", you can always put a covered trash can in the bathroom, add a plastic "WalMart bag" to the trash can and dispose of the used TP in the trash. It may be an inconvenience, but better than "tearing the bottom off the trailer to unclog a valve".....

Once you locate a source of "appropriate TP, just put the trash can cover under the sink until the "next crisis".....

As previously stated any "septic safe" is ok. Never bought "RV" tp and never had an issue. As an alternative to shopping where you "normally" shop. Think about places where the "average Joe" won't think about. Example: Home Depot sells it, So does Bid Lots, and other discount stores. Also don't rule out places like restaurant supply houses, some do sell to the public (we have one about 5 miles away and get great prices on frozen shrimp, canned crab meat, etc. if we are buying for a party or holiday.)
Don't panic, stay calm and be smarter than the "average Joe" which should be easy these days.

And if it comes to it, take John's advice and don't throw these down the toilet in the camper or at home!

John's suggestion is what several rvers we've met do for some odd reason. My DW said "there's no way in h____ that is happening in our rv, if that's what's required we'll sell the RV!".
Others we've met ONLY use the toilet to go #1 at night, if going #2 they go to the park facilities. All of our RVs came with a toilet & black tank to hold the waste that we use for it's intended purpose.
As for TP, the only time in 40+ years of rving we've used RV specific TP is when the dealer gave us a package when we bought the RV. Any brand the DW likes (mine hates the RV stuff) that's "septic safe" will be just fine as long as you use plenty of water per flush, which you should do regardless if it's RV TP.

I have Charmin and Angel Soft at home. They both say Septic Safe. I'll bring some as a backup. I might be able to find some RV toilet paper at an RV store.

Take a square of toilet paper and place it in a jar of water, or a bowl with water and let it set for 10 or 15 min. Shake the jar or stir the bowl. If the TP breaks up into small pieces and makes the water cloudy it's septic safe. If the TP doesn't break up then it's not "septic safe".

Any TP you use in your house, you can use in an RV. There is no difference. When you dump your tanks in your camper, it all goes either into a septic tank, or a city treatment plant. You do not need anything special for your RV. Use what you have.

Or, do like we did, and install a Bidet! Our TP usage went from 1 roll a day to less than 1 roll a month. REALLY!

Those will be just fine! I wouldn't go to the trouble to hunt RV specific TP & pay more for it. Just press the pedal til waste drops then run water for about 5 seconds before releasing the pedal, you shouldn't have any problems.
One bit of advice that you probably already know, but others may not, is NEVER EVER leave the black tank valve open when connected to a park sewer system, drain when full. Toilet paper & fecal matter make a very ugly smelly paper mache.

On Amazon, some of these are not available, but many are. Beats chasing around to stores trying to find some. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=rv+toilet...b_sb_ss_i_6_15

after living in mexico for winters we just don't throw the paper into the toilet.

we use the waste basket--with a plastic bag. It works.
At this point I'd be doing this if you can't get RV paper.

So does Office Depot / OfficeMax, if it comes to that.

We've never bought "branded RV" TP, we just use the same single-ply we buy for the house. We can put up with pretty much anything, as long as it isn't that waxed cr*p they used to supply us in college.

After seeing the empty shelf's that were only weeks ago full of TP. This morning I told the clerk they had many packages of corn husks. In fact the pegs were full with bags of them. He should put them on the TP aisle. When I told him they were used in this country for many years. Heck grow it and then its even free, why waste all that money on the TP.
I suppose they only work best in an outhouse, but funny to talk about.
