Retracting mechanical slides on 22’ Cougar

New Cougar 22 RBS. Yeah!! I want to know what tools I need to manually retract the slides and where/if I should get a spare shear pin. Dealer said the manual crank is under a square screwed into the underbelly cover. However, when I remove that square there is not cut out. I don’t want to cut if I am not in need but....does anyone know what I need (socket size? Deep? Extension?)....and do you thing the square cover is in the right place so that if I do cut I’m in the right place? And finally (!) any experiences with shear pins shearing? See ya all on the rode!

Yes the slide motor is under that square cutout. I don't remember what size it is but I can check later if nobody else knows. The motor is right at the end of the slide actuator tube so that will give you a reference for cutting the hole. Just poke a little one in the coroplast to orient yourself and then you can make it as big as you want.

Thanks all! I really don't want to cut until I need to (and hope that's never!)

When you do "finally need to cut", remember these two rules:

1. Remove the "screwed on cover" and cut about 3" inside that cover.
2. ALWAYS cut the two sides and REAR of the cutout, making a flap with the "hinge" toward the front of the trailer.

That way, you can use Gorilla tape (or an alternative) to reseal the "trap door" that you created and then reinstall the cover and then seal it with more Gorilla tape. Doing it this way will give you a "double the protection" when towing in rail or on muddy roads.....

Steveo....did you access the motor from floor inside? Or, underneath? What square are you referring too? I can see bronze slide actuator, do you follow shaft on that toward center of belly? Thanks...

If it’s electric, the motor will be underneath the coroplast.

It's accessed from underneath the trailer. You have to cut a hatch in the underbelly to get to the motor. Mine has a coroplast patch screwed over the area where the motor is located.

I've attached a few pictures. One of the patch location and another showing the motor and slide actuator with the underbelly removed.
