Headed to Blue Ridge area in southern VA. Any CG recommendations?
We're headed to Blue Ridge in mid October. Any advice on campgrounds? We went last year and stayed at Wildwood CG NW of Lynchburg. Was nice but wanted to try somewhere else....see new things...maybe a bit further south.

Chris,
I found the southern portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway had more to offer than what was in VA. My DW and I stayed in both states to visit the Blue Ridge Parkway and we both felt that the area around Asheville NC had more to offer and see.
See PM that I sent to you.

We have stayed in the Jessie Lea RV Park in Big Stone Gap, VA (southern foot). Nice park and interesting area. This is the town Adriana Trigiana lived in and wrote about in her book Big Stone Gap. If you go, be sure to have lunch in the Drug Store.
Another good campground, but not in the southern part of the state, is Candy Hill just north of Winchester, VA. If you are a Civil War buff this is a great place. Stonewalls Headquarters is in town plus Antietam & Harper's Ferry are within 45 min. Winchester is the gateway into the Shenandoah Valley. If you visit, eat dinner at the Cork Street Tavern, "best ribs in the valley."

chris199,
Unsure how far you are traveling on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Cool Breeze Campground, http://www.deercreekrvresort.com/index.html Galax, Va, where we will be having a Rally next Memorial Day is real close to the Parkway & is an excellent campground with full hookups. There are, also, primitive campgrounds on the Parkway we are unable to give any info on them, since we have only stayed at 1 and that was ummmmm 20 years ago.

Decided on Montebello Camp and Resort
We are trying Montebello......and some close relatives will be staying at a B&B up the road about 1/2 mile...Dutch Haus. (Yes....Montebello...not Monticello.)
We will be coming down rt 81 to to 64 to the Blue Ridge Parkway to Rt 56. Was told not to take 81 to 56. 56 is trecherous!
We will see wht Montebello is like. Hope the fall colors are still around in 10 days!

Lake Ridge Campground in Hillsville is really good. We have stayed there several times. My kids love it.
