Anyone camp with their dogs? I got a nice fold up fencing that I can put by the door. Problem is that it's too tall to fit "under" the entry door frame. So, either I go with a step cover - that I saw for several hundred dollars, OR I come up with something myself. I'm considering a tarp Velcro behind the step, and attached to both sides of the portable fence, or use under pinning snaps with the tarp... anyone have ideas or I making any sense?

I hook a retractable dog lease with a bungee cord on the back awning corner with awning extended.
tie off lease on door handle so you can hook up from camper door.
I recommend dog be in a harness.

look close there's another one on the front for the cat she's on the table.

You can get some very inexpensive plastic fence from Lowes/Home Depot
that comes in rolls and cut it to fit. If you want to stay with the redneck theme...which is what I would do....go with the green fence.

We use tie out cable. If we have a large space we use a stake hammered into the ground. If we don't have that much space we attach it to the steps. She has room to move around and can come see us when she wants.

One large CG was recently told by their insurance the little fence enclosures or anything else is not the same as "a 6' non-retractable leash". Since they did not wish to lose their liability insurance the fences disappeared. My 26# dog is always on a leash when not at home as if he wanted it would be easy for him to go through or over as most are light metal or plastic junk.

Dogs at campgrounds are probably the most annoying thing.

Constantly yapping/barking
Owners that do not pick up after them
Owners that think everyone should love their yapper
Owners that leave the campground with their yapper left inside or outside yapping away

I'm sure my post will bring out the worst of the yapper lovers out there, but I never understood why people can't go a weekend without their yapper.

I have a dog and love him, but feel no need to bring him to busy campgrounds.

Dogs are not the problem. Owners are the problem.

Dogs like hiking and camping activities.
Why wouldn't you bring your dog or cat ?
Why have one ?
There are lots of campground that don't allow dogs, go to them.
BTW
All NY State campgrounds don't allow pets , Our county ones do.

I have a cousin that don't like kids at campgrounds says they should be left at home


I don't get it Dogs and kids are part of camping.

We don't have kids and We don't get annoyed when some rambunctious kids are camping next to us and antagonizing my dog,
Some Parents and some dog owners are the problem.
For the most part I find people are good , kids are kids dogs are dogs.

I definitely can understand how a constantly yammering could make anyone uncomfortable (dog or child).

I had a neighbor, that had a dog in their backyard that barked 24x7 (22x7 to be fair), and repeatedly threw its entire weight at my fence. Ultimately they moved, but not before the dog knocked down my fence. Inconsiderate to say the least. I needed a new fence after that.

My dogs are my family. And yes they may bark occasionally, generally alerting me... that and my 9mm is generally all I need for relative piece of mind.

Not everyone is considerate, but I do pick up after my "kids", as well as my 6 yr old granddaughter, when she barks , er, gets "chatty", she's louder and more rambunctious than any pet I could ever own.

I will definitely be aware, and have no intention of just walking away at anytime whether they are outside or inside. I would prefer, though, when given the option, feed them outside of the trailer, so they can immediately do their business. Makes cleanup a "one stop shop", of sorts.

I have 5 kennel sections I use. 2 are shorter and fit under the trailer skirt, the full length of the trailer. The 3 taller ones make for a big pen for our 2 dogs. Works quite well.

My dog is somewhat larger (50 lbs) and could probably clear a 5' or even 6' fence if she felt like it (she's not that motivated by anything). Depending on how the campsite is laid out, we either clip her line to the rear bumper of the trailer or to the eye of a corkscrew metal stake. Or she is inside with us. I admit that the line is often more than 6' in a large campsite, particularly a deep wide campsite.

I've worked hard to train her to be well-behaved as far as meeting other dogs, people, kids and specifically not to bark at people walking by - with or without dogs - in a campground.

A lot of people don't bother to train their dog to do - or not do - anything, and it is very often the small dogs. I got into a bit of a contretemps with someone this last week while I was walking along the path to the shower room and her little Chihuahua mix dog snapped at my ankle as we passed each other. She laughed as though it was amusing and we had a few words. It is very bad dog behavior and the argument that "well, he is so little he can't really hurt anyone" is total BS.

All of the state parks in Oregon allow dogs. There are some parks (without camping) that don't allow dogs on the trails and I think some of the National Wildlife Refuges and certain beaches during ground-nesting bird breeding seasons also prohibit them.
