Too much tow vehicle.....?

Is there ever a time when you have too much tow vehicle? Completely street legal Ford F650.....Now that's one big cool truck.....and I'm not even a Ford fan....LOL.

I've actually seen something similar on site at a campground in Cadillac, MI. The tires were not nearly as tall, but it was a custom job, 4 full size doors on each side. My buddy says hey you have to walk down here and check this thing out...I was floored.

Then, we walked past it. On the other side, COMPLETELY hidden behind it was a F250.

I was like, seriously?? lol

You can never have enough tow vehicle, that truck is bad too the bone, but unrealistic for me, I'd never be able too get up in it

Now here is my idea of a tow vehicle

I won't speak to other states laws but, in Oregon this gets those type of trucks in trouble. All tires need to be covered by a mud flap or fender flair no part of any tread can be outside of it on the vehicle body. Mud flaps needed if road to lowest part of vehicle wheel well is over 27 inches. Headlights cannot be mounted higher than 44 inches unless on a vehicle with snow plow or government vehicle. What guys do here is remount headlights on front bumpers and put on mud flaps.

And for those of you still wondering how to tow just one other vehicle across state lines while taking all of your toys with you, here's your configuration.

Just wondering how many Dodges they stop for the tires being wider then the fenders on the rear of DRW's....and that's stock. Just my observation. My Ford DRW's would never meet muster in Oregon. Tires to wide, headlights to high, and not sure then would even let my mudflaps slide.......

I see many drw trucks but, none with factory wheels having tires wider than the fenders just ones with aftermarket wheels. I will see if that is on the newest model but, do not think so. Last one I test drove dodge 3500 drw 4x4 2008 tires were not outside the fenders on factory wheels. Just to be clear the tire at the highest point of it must have all tread inside a fender, many cars and trucks bodies curve in as they reach the bottom of the body and tire tread is outside at that point that is legal. I was just pointing out the law and if you drive any vehicle illegality or with illegal or missing required equipment you have allowed the police to stop you. Me, even being a cop, I do not want to be stopped.

The first ticket I ever got was at the I-70/Lookout Mountain interchange just west of Denver. It was for "oversize tires" on a 1972 Jeep Commando. The CSP officer wrote it because the tires extended beyond the vehicle body.

In Louisiana, one of my "best troops" got a ticket by the Alexandria City Police in his "brand new Toyota PU" which had factory tires on it. Same reason for the ticket. Patrolman cited the Louisiana state law as his source. The Toyota dealer went to bat for him with a statement that the tires were "factory original" and met the state requirements. I suppose that one was a "judgment call" on the part of the officer............ Anyway.............

So, it's not just Oregon that has "goofy requirements".

Those old cars are OK without fenders and are licensed as a SP (special vehicle) or Antique vehicle, they are do not need many required items as a normal vehicle.

Ultimate Tow Vehicle

This would be mine, if I could afford it - big 5th wheel in place of box trailer.

If you come here or not is OK. I just happen to know traffic laws and MOST (not all) vehicle equipment laws are from DOT and the states adopt them. That s part of having federal funds given to the states. Since I only work here I cannot say what TX DPS does. If you checked they likely have the same law.

If Texas has this law they definitely don't enforce it where I live. There are some insane diesels including some highly lifted dually's. I wish I had some photos but there are a few lifted dually's nearby that are just beyond ridiculous. Huge dual tires that stick way out past the fenders and I'm not sure of the lift amount but they are high off the ground. I have no idea what they are good for besides looks as they are too high to tow anything. If it can be done to a big truck, it's done around here. I see some that can't be legal, at least I can't imagine it being legal.

On a different note, living in Texas there is no way I'd even consider driving a small compact car. The odds of survival in a crash can't be good against the big disel trucks everywhere. I think the smaller the car the closer the rednecks like to follow and tailgate, just to piss them off. A couple of months ago there were quite a few teenagers arrested for drag racing their diesels, some are insanely fast. Rolling coal is common, especially if a Prius in beside them!.
