Thousand islands New York

Highly recommend visiting the Thousand island region…beautiful water oriented vacation spot…crystal clear water ( The Caribbean of the North) hundreds of tiny islands some no bigger then the house that is on it..beautiful architecture…grand old estates and homes…even a castle on one island….everyone has a boat or rents one…You look right across at Canada, 4 miles from the thousand island Border bridge

we rented a little boat and explored the little islands and state parks that can only be reached by boat…went swimming….the little towns have good floating docks where you tie up to eat lunch or look around..Clayton New York was fantastic…historic little waterfront town with great dining right on the water ( Bellas was great!)…ate breakfast at a little table overlooking the water….antique boat museum and great little shops…The guy with the hat in the Hackercraft boat is the captain…we took a tour from the antique boat museum …Also the old Chris Craft “Flat Top” is Country star Alan jackson’s donation

Neat pics Brian. The floating post office is pretty cool. I'm attaching a link to AJ's Flat Top boat. I've had a long love for those old Chris Craft boats - they are so pretty....beautiful. First time I ever saw one (desert rat remember) was in 1972 on Tablerock Lake in MO. Very similar to Flat Top but no top on it. I couldn't take my eyes off of it and it was in the same marina we were so spent a lot of time gawking and watching the owner drive it. The link may be of no interest to anyone but....it's a cool boat.

Cool video! i didn’t get a chance to hear it run when i was there but the video is from the antique boat museum i was talking about…beautiful area….A guy i did a job for about 10 years ago and then became friends with was trying to give me his fathers old whirlwind boat. actually he wanted to give to my daughter because she is an editor for a boating magazine. We decided we (I) have too many ongoing projects so i passed on it…he calls me all the time telling me how his nephew took the boat and is cleaning it up and fixing some things…he just sent me some pictures and i’m kicking myself for not taking it

you won’t be disappointed…also it was at least 10 degrees cooler then where i live in MD almost the entire week with zero humidity …and absolutely no flies or mosquitoes the entire time! …my wife and i hiked thru the woods many times and even at dusk and still no bugs. I did hear from another camper that the lack of mosquitoes isn’t always the case but it really was a perfect week…cool mornings and warm days

Glad you enjoyed tour time there. We love it up there. We have a cottage on Goose Bay, which is about 10 minutes North of A-bay/Boldt Castle. We also camp at some of the state parks up that way as well (Keewaydin, Grass Point, Kring Point, etc.).

Brian, you’ve got a lot of damned gall coming on here flaunting your fine vacation, fancy boats and elite locations!
Here I am having to travel a thousand miles, one way, staying at Super8’s, eating at pancake houses and hot dog stands !
AND going to a class reunion meeting DW’s old boy friends!
Did I mention having to listen to my BIL’s bs deer hunting stories again?
Brian, shame on you!
(By the way, for all you posters on the water hose/tank dump thread, this is all tongue in cheek)

My apologies…don’t know what i was thinking Jim…I will try and limit my posts to squabbling over how much air to put in my tires or what brand to get…maybe throw in a post or two about all the heart wrenching problems i’ve encountered with my fifth wheel and if i’m feeling really nostalgic i will contribute to an inevitable future post on Truck brands and 3/4 vs 1 ton …..only the important stuff that makes camping fun

If you want a real nice place to camp go to Welsley Island state park. There is only one loop that has full hook ups, the fox loop.
Fantastic park and one of the few State Parks with full hook ups.
Great location too.

That’s exactly where I stayed and what loop I was on

Wellesley Island is a nice park and we have camped there several times. We also like Robert Moses State Park, which is also on an island in the St. Lawrence River at the Eisenhower Locks (about 85 miles East and North). To round out our preferred Island camping areas in Northern NY, we also like Association Island (Sun Outdoors) which is in Lake Ontario about 42 miles South and West of Wellesley Island.
