Which of the three most common types of slide out mechanism do you have; cable, Schwintek, or rack & pinion?

1. Are the cables in adjustment (shows you have a 2016 trailer). 2. And the first thing I would check, is the condition of the bottom of your slide. Is the darco fabric worn, frayed or torn?

I would check the slide seals and the underside of the slide and look for anything catching or binding. I use a Teflon dry spray every few months to keep everything moving. If anything is binding, it will make the mechanism struggle.

You should also check that the cable tension is correct because loose cables will cause the drive chain to skip on the drive gear. If everything otherwise looks and feels right, it might be time for a new drive motor/gearbox assembly

If the darco on the bottom has not torn or balled up look at the seals as mentioned above. You might have a piece missing on the top/bottom/side or split and pulled inside.

Does the awful noise it makes sound like the motor is binding/lugging/pulling down?

What kind of trailer do you have? Your profile shows a 16 Bullet 27bh but I can't find that. Look at the motor for your slide, the cables and the pulleys at the corners. You should be able to locate where that loud thump is coming from; does it sound like it's above the slide?

Your slide motor, which may be your problem, will probably be above the slide mounted to the wall above it. If it's a rythmic thump it could well be the motor/drive gear.

Tip: (advise), before dismantling anything, take lots of photos you can use for future reference. In all the best intention, after something is taken apart, its easy to be confused how it all goes back together a little later. Photos of the original are priceless!

Great tip! My Dad taught me that a long time ago back in the Polaroid days when doing a brake job on my 70’s era Dodge Dart. It has served me well ever since and is sooooo much easier now with smartphones

I had this same issue with mine. The problem was the adjustment blocks on the cables were twisted out of alignment and would hang up on each other as they tried to pass each other while opening or closing. See if you can observe the cables on the top of the slide while opening or closing. You may have to adjust the blocks so they are oriented vertically, not canted on an angle.

Slide Out issues

Vincerod - I experienced similar issues with my 5th Wheel Keystone Fuzion 331. The slides underneath the living room slide were worn out. Dealer removed the room and replaced the sliders. I also installed upgraded motor and a drip pan.

Much like stabilizers (I have the LCI 6-point for 5th wheel), I also have placed stabilizers under kitchen, living room and rear deck to support my slides when extended to relieve weigh/pressure when parked for more than a few days (especially when I'm parked for months at a time) ***See attached pictures***. Cut some 2x4's, and stapled carpet on the 2x4's to save on the slides exposed underside. Using adjustable stands to support the 2x4's and extended rooms.

Taking the weight off the slides is noticeable when the stands are removed and slides move in smoothly.

The gearbox attached to the slide motor is known to go bad and can make the jumping and thumping noise you are talking about. I've had to replace both of mine.

Keep us posted on what you find.
