Roswell Campground and Santa Fe Recommendations

We will be heading out to Santa Fe NM and spending a couple nights in Roswell just to see the weird stuff. Does anybody have any recommendations for RV parks in the Roswell area and anything to see or do there or while in Santa Fe?

Thanks Ahead of Time
Larry

Weird stuff in Roswell? Be careful, they are still there - and you'll love all the aliens in the stores....or on the lamp posts....or the museum. Unfortunately I don't know about RV parks there as I've always been in a hotel passing through.

Santa Fe has a lot of history. You can see the Palace of the Governors and/or any of the very historical sites there. Depending on when you are there make sure you take time for the square (plaza) when the Native Americans line the streets selling the handmade wares. Many times the plaza has all kinds of artwork, vendors etc. Not many things like downtown when they are in swing. Be sure and walk around the square maybe at lunch - some really good selections to try some Native American dishes. If you have time you might drive out past Espanola to the Ghost Ranch where Georgia O'keefe stayed and painted - beautiful country around Abiquiu.

We stayed in a couple KOA's one in Albuquerque and one in Bernalillo. There is a nice scenic loop drive from Santa Fe up to Bandelier NM, which was very interesting. You continue to Valles Caldera and back around to Jemez Springs and soak in the hot springs there. Continue back around to the KOA in Bernalillo for the night and enjoy a pizza and brew at the Kactus Brewery connected to the campground. Some nights they have entertainment.
You might also want to visit Los Alamos and the nuclear museum in Albuquerque. Another worthwhile trip is the tram up to Sandia Crest peak.

We stayed overnight both directions while heading to Colorado last year at the Red Barn RV Park in Roswell. Small park with back-in only, but quiet. They do have a small store / rec center and town is only 3 miles up the road.

When in Roswell, drive over and see White Sands Natl. Monument. Also drive down to Carlsbad and see Carlsbad Caverns. The weird stuff will be in Santa Fe.
