Newbie from Mass

We just bought our first RV, a 2022 Keystone Hideout 290QB. We’ve been warming up to it in the driveway for a few weeks and are about to embark on our Maiden Voyage. We have a 2020 Ford Expedition Platinum Max with the heavy duty tow package to tow it. My wife and I are dragging our 4 teenagers out this summer so we needed an option that could tow and fit the whole family. Regardless of how it goes, we will definitely be making memories.

Welcome, I would urge you to carefully consider towing that size trailer with an SUV. At 33' and a gvw of 9,650 lbs plus 4 teenagers? I think your Ecpedition will be grossly over weight. At a tongue weight of 15% of gvw that's a 1,447 lbs. Add another 100 lbs for a weight distributing hitch and your loading 1,550 lbs just on the hitch which likelly exceeds the hitch rating.

Add the weight of your DW, 4 teens, and all their gear and you're likely 2,500 lbs at a minimum. Payload, found on the tire inflation chart on the driver's door is the number of concern. Max towing numbers mean nothing as you will exceed payload capacity long before you reach that max towing number.

This is the "tire inflation chart" referred to. In addition, you likely have passenger car tires which will definitely be overmatched on your SUV. The advice given was on point. Hope you take note. The payload for the vehicle in this example is 3240. Yours will be just over 1000 lbs payload.

For the safety of you, your DW & teens I'd urge you to carefully check the numbers on your Expeditions door jamb. As already mentioned I'm sure you'll be extremely overloaded, not likely to be an enjoyable towing experience.
Sounds as though you've fallen victim to the rv salespersons spiel about the Expeditions max tow rating & the dry weight of that rv, unfortunately both those numbers are totally useless in the rv world.
Good luck & safe travels.
