Small electrical question

Will my trailer fridge run on electric in stead of propane while connected to the truck and traveling down the highway?

Only if you have an inverter and it’s wired into the refrigerator circuit…you need to have sufficient battery’s to handle the power draw when you will be on the road for more then a few hours I would think…I believe Javi has a residential style fridge and some other members on the forum…these units come with an inverter specifically for the refrigerator and travel days

Also if your making just a few hour trips you can turn your fridge on the day before and get it cold, fill it up, and then when you start driving you can leave it off and closed..do not open it for anything until you get to the campground and plug back in…most things will stay cold…gonna take awhile to get all the way cold again but it works for trips under 4 hours.
I don’t know if I would put ice cream in there but frozen meats that will be defrosted and used that weekend anyway are ok I would think…most things will stay frozen. and I’m a real stickler about fresh foods

Is your fridge a propane/12 volt model? I dont see where you indicated it was a residential fridge. If so it will run off your 12 volt battery which is being recharged by the truck while you drive.

I looked at the year of his trailer and assumed (could be wrong) that it was a 110/lp refrigerator…I thought the 12 volt rv style was a relatively new option in the 2021 units…I know there has always been 12 volt/ lp / 110 units or lp/12 volt but didn’t think they came in a 2019 cougar half ton

His comment "instead of propane" is what got me wondering what he had.

Yeah I guess I confused things by mentioning residential style refrigerators…I have a dometic 110/lp four door…I assumed the op had the same style or norcold version

I mentioned residential style because I know the avalanche and alpine and some others have a residential refrigerator option ( with a included inverter)

In 2021 I know they have been advertising 12 volt refrigerators presumably to be attractive to boondockers with solar setups.

I was suggesting if they had a traditional 110/lp unit like I have and didn’t want to use lp they would need to have a inverter installed to power the refrigerator

Sorry for the confusion

We’ve been gone from home for 7 weeks and one propane tank is empty and the other is low. We will be home in four days so maybe I’ll just buy propane to be sure I don’t run out.

We have dry camped 7 days and found it easier the use propane on fridge and WH even while on shore power rather than have DW deal with 30 Amps.

With that fridge it will run on propane and 12 volt while rowing, not 12 volt alone.
