Power Inverter

I hope this hasnt been beaten to death.

I am looking to install a power inverter in our 2020 261rbs. However i dont want to drill holes for extension coreds to go everwhere. I was wondering if its safe to take say an 8g extension cord cut off the female end and wire it to an outlet that we can have in our bedroom. The only thing this would power would be a fan to sleep at night and a tv to fall asleep to. We are weird people lol. We already have two batteries wired for better amp hours and will be using a solar panel to charge during the day.

Rather than buy an expensive extension cord and cut the end off of it, why not just use a 1000 watt inverter, install it "next to the battery" (or as close as you can, to save on heavy gauge cable from the battery to the inverter) and then use 14 gauge ROMEX from the inverter output to a dedicated 110 volt duplex (2 plugs on the box) outlet installed on a cabinet wall or on the bed platform?...

The Romex is rated at 15 amps and the 1000 watt inverter is rated at 8.3 amps, so you'll never "overload the wiring or plug".

As long as you've got a "decent brand inverter" the output will be protected by an internal circuit breaker on the inverter, so no need to install another fuse or circuit breaker between the inverter output and the plugs.

I planned on connecting it to the factory battery disconnect. Do you think 1000watt is good enough for a small fan and tv?

When you install an inverter, the further away from the bsttery(s) the heavier gauge wire you’ll need to power it. I would put it as close as possible and then do like John suggested and run Romex. I think your going to find you will have to drill holes somewhere, but there are ways of hiding it.

I think a 1000 watt "peak" 750 watt "continuous service" would be adequate for a 8"-10" table fan which would draw about 50-75 watts and most 26" LED TV's which draw around 100-125 watts. That's a total of around 200 watts, less than 1/2 the rated inverter continuous output and well within any "full time use" (meaning all night) rating.

Even if you add a couple of 30 watt "phone chargers" to the mix, you're still going to be under 300 watts on a 750 watt system. Just don't think it'll run the hair dryer or coffee pot "just this once".... It won't..... Not even once LOL

I have these in my boat . Another option if you don’t have an inverter. They are quiet and move a lot of air. I don’t like sleeping on the boat with the generator running so we usually use these
