Almost bought 3121RS... it was between that and the Avalanche 313RS but went with the Avalanche because the things that were different... built in vacuum, and cord reel weren't enough of a boost to spend the $7k different in asking price..

As for "Pros and Cons"

Pro: It's built by Keystone
Con: It's built by Keystone

To address the "elephant about to be in the room", the Alpine 3120RS is about 2600 pounds heavier (dry weight) with a 600 pound heavier dry pin weight....

If you're planning to use your 2012 F250 as the tow vehicle, I'd do some very serious calculations and get some CAT scale weights before making any "finalized commitments"....

My 2012 was purchased new and was built as a special work truck for some company. It has a payload capacity of 3435lb so I will be well within limits as far as payload goes. I'm presently pulling a 13,,000 lb 5th wheel and have pulled it all over Colorado, Utah and California with no problems pulling up 12,000 foot mountains. We NEVER haul water so that helps with the total weight and it is just the two of us so no kids or pets anymore. I'm hoping we will be ok if I don't pack a lot of stuff in the unit. Thanks for your input and yes I will put it on the scale and if it is unsafe a new truck will be purchased. Thanks again for your thoughts and I hope to hear back from you regarding your thoughts with this new data.

Getting a pretty deal on this one! It is a 2020 "very lightly" used 3120RS with all the bells and whistles and I think I can get it for $58,000.00 which I think is pretty good. Plus they will put on new Goodyear G rated 14 ply Tires. I think it is a pretty good deal

As a note... there is almost no weight behind the axle on the 3120 - 3121 RS.. or the 312-313RS trailers.. unless you add to the freshwater tank..
So the pin weight is slightly higher than you'd normally see..

My 313RS the twin of the 3121RS is running right at 3,000- 3,350 depending on the DW's shoe count..

BTW.. the residential fridge is a good thing.. I doubt we'd ever go back to an RV fridge..

I know all to well about the DW shoe count and make-up poundage!! Anyhow, this unit has the large two door frig but this one runs on both electric and propane. I'm hoping we will be ok as far as payload and towing capacity since I really don't want to purchase a new truck. This one only has 85,000 miles on it and we have had NO problems with it at all. I do plan on changing all hoses, plus adding air bags and new heavy duty shocks as well. Hopefully all will be ok!! Thanks again and while you travel......be very careful out there!!!!!

I don’t know that I’d pay $58 for a used 2020. New would have been 60-62. a 2021 will run you $65. Normally a little more gap between new and used than that. Granted once you drive it off the lot they’re all used and it’s value will be the same as any other used 2020. Let me just ask it this way, IF they had a new 2020 sitting on the lot at $61k, would you still buy the lightly used for $58k. If your answer is yes, then pull the trigger. No down sides to an Alpine in my opinion. I’ve had mine for 8 years without a problem and have sold many with very positive feedback. Not just saying that, I’ve been the top Alpine salesman at our dealership for 3 straight years. Lost count on how many I’ve actually sold and have only seen a couple come back in for very minor warranty issues. Most I never see again.

Grey Ghost...we just had a three day “break in” trip on our 2021 Alpine 3120 RS...fantastic fifth wheel!!

Love the 6 point auto level, electric cord reel, vacuum, king size bed, heat pump, etc.

We had a top of the line Foest River for eight seasons, but the newer technology was hard to pass up.

With my trade in, I didn’t pay a whole lot more than the quote you have...for a brand new rig.

Thanks, good to hear. Tomorrow we are going down to hopefully strike a deal. I'm going to start low and when we hit the figure I want, we take it home, I hope. I've heard good things about Keystone however, they are all out to make a buck, but so am I.
Do you have to have warranty work done where you purchase your rig or can I have it done at a place I've used for the last 10 years? I've asked Keystone but haven't heard anything back as of yet.

Keystone does not require its dealer network to honor any warranty for any product. There are dealerships that do not even have a service department for trailers they sell. No dealership is required to service trailers purchased elsewhere. So, the only way you can confirm that the dealership you've selected that you have used in the past is to stop by or call them and ask. They may tell you that they will accept your warranty work or they may tell you flatly, "NO".... I'd suspect that even if they do agree to service your trailer, you will be placed on the schedule behind/after their customers, so you can plan for a "long wait for service and a low priority appointment" from any dealership other than where you bought the trailer. Even returning to the dealership where you purchased your trailer is no "guarantee" that you'll get prompt, reliable service. Many forum members' most frustrating complaint is waiting for service/poor response to a need for service from the dealership where they bought their trailer.....

My suggestion: Confirming the service department's ability to keep your trailer repaired is just as important (maybe MORE important) than the purchase price.... Hundreds of posts on this and every other forum from members who "bought from a volume dealer to save $5000 or more" and can't find anyone to fix the things that broke.....

As for warranty work, you don’t state if the place you’ve used for the past 10 years is another dealer or an independent repair facility. first check with the place you want to get the work done and make sure they are approved for Keystone warranty repairs. Then find out if they are just a first come, first served or if they give priority to their customers (if they do sales). If they give priority to their customers, during summer months when sales and uses are at their peak, the service departments get slammed with getting sold units ready and customers with problems wanting to use their RV. At that time, don’t be surprised to hear you have a 3 month wait. Also, check labor rates. Many dealers have one rate for their customers and a different rate for outside customers. It won’t be under warranty forever. You can also ask the dealer where you are purchasing if they’re part of any network such as the Priority RV Network. Additionally, if I understand you correctly, this is a used RV. The warranty period starts from original date of purchase. Although Keystone transfers warranty to new owners when sold, the warranty goes off original date of purchase. Only the structural is a 3 year, everything else is 1 year. Structural is basically the frame and the walls. There’s a very good chance you don’t have any warranty left or very limited time left at best. You can buy extended warranties, but those will normally require you to take it to the dealership you purchased from unless you’re more than 100 miles from home (unless you buy on your own through a separate company).

Grey Ghost...my truck is a 2012 F350, and the biggest difference is the addition of a spring in the rear spring pack. My son in law bought a helper add on spring for his F250 to help with any squat from the pin weight. Of course the rear end gear ratio affects towing as well.

If you’re on the west coast, you might just give a call to our dealer in Sacramento,,,they state a fair sale price and only lower for trade in amounts...not a lot of the back and forth you get from most dealers...

The Alpine is a good unit. Have owned one for 7 years now. No major issues ..maintained and serviced by me...

Tires.... you can do much better than the GY tire you are talking about. It IS NOT an ST tire and only has a load capacity of 3760

I’d instead recommend either Sailun S637 series or Hercules 901 series... both are ST rated 14 ply tires with 4400 lb load capacity and six year warranty.

I’d also up the size from OEM 235/80x16 to 235/85x16 .... it will increase your height by 1/2 inch..and you will have plenty of tire spacing between axles

I think ChuckS hit the wrong number, the 235/85x16 is the taller tire. I did that on my Alpine as well. I went with the Heartland from Discount Tire. Have the same tire on my car hauler as well. So far have put about 10,000 miles on the RV tires over two years without a problem. Like the tires and will most likely go with the same ones when I replace them.

That added spring, nor air bags, DOES NOT legally increase the payload of any truck!
If there's an accident everyone from the investigating officer to someone's lawyer will look at the tag on your driver's door post, never will they look at the spring pack underneath. A F250 is a F250 regardless of anything anyone has added to it!!!
Now you've heard from the weight police! The rest is up to you!

I am looking at a 2021 3120RS. It has the sliding barn door leading from bed room to bathroom. when slid to the closed position it is only attached at the top and the door can wring to and fro...is that normal or is something wrong. Honestly we love the RV but my wife is having a difficult time getting over the free swinging barn door.
