Upgrade power converter?
Wanted to get some advice on my power converter. It recently fried and it's under warranty. But, I'm considering taking this opportunity to upgrade from the stock WFCO model to a "smart" converter such as an Intellipower. My trailer is a Bullet 308BHS which is 50A. We don't boondock and mostly have gull hookup. I also keep it plugged to a 50A hookup at home. Just wanting experience/opinions on whether it's worth it or not. Thanks in advance!

I replaced my WFCO nine years ago just after warranty ran out. Replaced with the same make and model and have not had any problems since. Mine also is plugged in 24/7. If it were me, I would take the free replacement and smile all the way to the bank. If it does fail in the future you can spend your money then ..... chances are it won't. JM2¢, Hank

Do you know for sure that your WFCO is not a smart converter?

From everything I've read it doesn't appear to be. I think in my situation (full hookup camping) it's not a necessity. But with the work going to be done anyhow I wanted to weigh out the options.

I'd go with the free replacement too.

The WFCO 8855E performs 3 stage charging. Since they are replacing the fried unit, I would try to get a credit towards an upgrade to a better unit from WFCO.

ETA: After looking at the AFCO web site, I couldn't find one that isn't a 3 stage charger.

Thanks guys! I think my first instinct was right. I'm gonna take the free replacement and use that money for other upgrades.
Happy trails and safe travels!
