tongue compromized?
Picked up my new Springdale and a tech had drilled the tongue for a sway bar mount with 6 holes. I brought it to their attention that I ordered dual cam sway not the bar and they plugged the holes with screws. My question is the strength of the tongue now weakened from the holes without the plate mounted there? Is filling the screw holes enough or should there be a plate mounted with the screws for reinforcement? thanks

I would not worry about it... If you want further confirmation, post some pics and the thickness of the frame.

thanks for reassurance, my mind is still spinning from buying new and selling old. I was also thinking screws might come in handy in future for mounting some kind of bracket to hold bars when not hooked up.

If you're real concerned then just buy a piece of steel plate and use the screws to mount it to the frame....

Maybe there's a structural engineer around, but I don't think a steel plate will help much. The holes are already there, and I don't see how mounting a plate on the holes will help that much. I think that welding the holes shut would be a much better approach. Or welding that plate over the holes.

Bolting a steel plate to a steel frame is not much different than welding one. Structural engineers use bolts all the time joining steel brackets etc...
At least this way the OP has the option of later mounting something to the frame if they choose. Their choice..

I had the same issue happen to me.
After informing them they attached the wrong sway bar - the dealer left the original sway bar mount on the trailer.
They ate the loss on that, but made it up on all the extras I have had them perform over the past year.

It did not weaken the frame.... frames are full of holes and six more little holes aren't gonna hurt nothing... get on the road and enjoy the new trailer...

I would request the plate be installed that the holes were drilled for - even though it may never get used.

I switched my TT from a friction mount to Dual Cam and just put a plate over the holes to keep some water out of the box frame. No worries on the strength
