12Volt Plug

Greetings one and all. I want to add a 12V Accessory Plug somewhere close to my stereo so I can use my Sirius Satellite radio while camped. Do not know if I should splice into the 12V feet for the stereo. Any help would be greatly appreciated

If you provide the model of your RV, those with the same or like floorplans would be able to provide some input.

I have the older version of this, subx2r, it has great sound and then you can use your sirrius everywhere. Well worth the money.

I've tapped in to several places throughout my camper. I use these plastic in-line taps.

I haven't had any problems yet. I think you will be ok, as long as you are not plugging in a welding machineLOL

I did exactly that by tapping the 14 awg wire that feeds 12vdc to the radio unit. On my unit, I installed two regular cigarette lighter style power outlets and a dual USB power outlet. We dry camp mostly at the moment so I also added an on/off switch on the USB outlet because it continuously draws a small amount of current.

On my trailer, there were some blank panels in the cabinet right next to the radio so it was easy to drill some holes for the outlets. I'll grab a pic and post it here when I get the Cougar out of winter storage in a couple of weeks.

The 12vdc outlets are Blue Sea part number 1011.
The Dual USB outlet is Blue Sea part number 1016.
A less expensive 12vdc outlet is SeaChoice #15011.

Those plastic taps are called "scotch locks" they are great for tapping into low voltage and amperage only. do not use them for 110vac. and they are not great for outside (in the weather) connections. they corrode. this is what Keystone used on my brake wires removed them and use solder "but connectors with heat shrink. but inside they are perfect

If you do not plan on dry camping, you might be able to get an adaptor to take care of this.

12 v plug by Television cable

Most campers have a 12 volt plug by the connection for the television antenna hookup and antenna booster.

Unfortunately, those are usually in a corner of the bedroom while the entertainment center where the OP wants an outlet is in the middle or the far end of the trailer. Either way, they are no where near close enough to the radio for the FM transmitter to move the signal from the XM/Sirius unit to the radio.

The winegard antenna power supply plate is also limited to 8 Amps.
