Question for F250 and Rocktamers Owners

I’ve invested in a set of Rocktamers for my F250. My question is this to those who may have BTDT... install a mud flap heat shield or not? The exhaust exits between the tire and the Rocktamers at a 45 degree angle. I have about 12 inches of space between the exhaust end and the mud flap. Given that the angle of the exhaust would push the hot exhaust out and away from the flap in a straight line, but at 65 on the highway, that exhaust going to get blown backward toward the mud flap. So do I have enough space between the exhaust and the flap, with cooler air mixing in, so that I don’t begin to heat the flap up too much and begin to deform/melt it? Or is the heat shield they sell for these required? Attached a quick picture that tells the story better than my description. :lol

Your mud flap is adjusted out too far. It should only go out about an inch or two past the outside of the tire itself. Yes, we did have Rock tamers on our F350 and some $%&#@ decided they needed them more than us. No heat shield necessary.

Thanks, appreciate the tribal knowledge. no heat shield required. Sorry to hear yours were swiped. I took that quick picture as an example of position, I do have them adjusted out about 2” from the tread. I don’t care for the stainless plates so not having another stainless thing back there is good news.
