New TT Family

Hello all from the Florida Panhandle. I just purchased my very first Hideout 272BH, which I pull with a 20’ Nissan Titan SV. The kids are so excited to start this adventure, but the wife.. not so much This is all very new to us and I can’t wait to learn everything this site has to offer!

You should have borrowed a tent and took the family tent camping prior to buying the Hideout. Bet the missus would have been much warmer to the idea of camping with a shower, A/C and a microwave as opposed to sleeping in a sleeping bag on the ground and a campfire and perhaps and at best a public campground restroom shared with bugs and perhaps a little mold. Your kids will have great memories. BTW: That camper is long enough you will want to explore getting a good hitch set up to avoid the camper swaying/wagging going down the road.

Congrats on your new purchase and hope you have many, many adventurous and fun trips.

Remember one very important part of RV ownership and "camping" in general ... Don't forget to enjoy the "journey" as much as the "destination." To often folks get all hung up on reaching their destination spot so they can start their vacation, they forget to enjoy the preparation and the ride there, and all the things along the way they miss. Our greatest memories are those times we just saw something interest along the trip and stopped and took a look. Small town America, local mom & pop shops, even yard sales in people's yards can result in some of the absolute best and memorable moments of your entire trip.

Keep in mind the interests of your children and plan on doing things and seeing things that is important to them, even if you don't want to. Otherwise, they will very, very quickly not have any interest in "camping". They also have to learn, you and your wife have things you'd like to see and do also. So, plan time for everyone's interest. Do this, and your entire camping "journey"will be successfu.

RVing is NOT a "destination". It's a "journey."

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new rig! I go through your town a few times a year going back and forth. Always stay in Holt just up the road by the Blackwater River park.

Some good thoughts have been posted and I'll make another observation since this is your first go round. The RV is not, and will not be like, a regular house. It is fragile and some of the components can be broken very easily (or dented/bent). Be sure the kids are aware of that. It's been a long time since we had kids (or grandkids) hanging out with us in the RV but I am reminded of that learning curve as I watch the folks on either side of us with small ones attempting to control the "chaos". Happy travels and have loads of fun - it's out there waiting..
