AL-KO Axle Rating?

Regarding a 2013 Keystone Laredo 296, TT.

I'm thinking about upgrading my suspension. (Axels, brakes, springs and bolts/shackles). I'm attaching photos of the labels on my currrent axels. They don't specifically state the weight limits, but I think they are 4400 lbs. each. Is that correct? Thanks anyone who may know about this company. Not sure if the attachments went through. The reads: T44 85/68.5TM 655ULE W/PP4. Serial #044-58412-001-0552240-00122. Apologies in advance for my ineptitude. Thanks....

Hi Kevin,
This is a 4400 # axle. I googled your T44 85/68.5TM 655ULE W/PP4 and it brought this up https://www.trekwood.com/replacements/5997/Axle
Yes it says it's for a 2012 Cougar, they were put on a bunch of 10K GVWR trailers across the Keystone line up.
I have the same axles on my trailer.

Trekwood is expensive and not the only place to get them.
You could try etrailer at this link for the components.

No axles here but they have the other components.

Try these guys, https://www.theoempartsstore.com/4400-LB-Axle-Beams
I found this stuff in about 10mins on the web. This should set you in the right direction

Good luck sir.

I just found this and seems like a good breakdown of what you need.

Why are you looking to replace the axles?

I just don’t like the idea of traveling even a distant close to capacity weight limits on my trailer. Also, I’ve never liked the way my trailer brakes act. (They seem spongy and don’t lock up when tested. I’m over 7 years on my shackles, etc. Upgraded tires are done- 10 ply.!

The vehicle manufacturer has the authority to set vehicle GAWRs. Those GAWR values depicted on the vehicle certification label are the only official values recognized by the industry.

Changing components linked to a requirement does not change the requirement. It may increase your vehicle's performance but has no bearing on the value of the SET requirements.

The weakest link in an axle system may be the tires. Unless you have written conformation from the vehicle manufacturer you're guessing, because it might be the wheel bearings.

Bottom line; only the vehicle manufacturer or a certified vehicle modifier has the authority to change original GVWR or GAWR values.

Back in 2013, Keystone would have certified your axles at 4000#. You can confirm that from the information on the vehicle certification label.
