Manual slide operation
I'm a new first time owner and have been trying to familiarize myself with the slide outs. Mine has the electric rack system with the drive gear on bottom. It disappears into the under belly and I'm trying to figure out how to manually operate.
I read the Lippert manual and see how it's done. It has no holes in the opposite siding so it looks like I need to cut a flap in the material sealing the bottom to get to the motor.
I found the drive shaft so I'm assuming the motor drives it. I don't want to hack it up trying to find it, but I think I want to cut a flap, do the manual op, then tape it up so I won't have to do find it at night in a rainstorm.
How far is the motor from the frame rail towards center?
Any help? Thanks!

There are 2 tubes with gear teeth on the bottom, right? One tube will have the motor and the other will just have a square shaft from the motor going to it. Before you cut the coroplast, take a few screws out of the edge and using a flashlight determine which end has the motor. Then you can cut the flap at the right spot. Cut just three sides, leaving the FRONT edge intact.

No it has two gear racks with a motor driven cross shaft that turns drive gears on one (or both?) racks.
I cant seen the cross shaft, only the ends of the racks.

That’s what I meant. Gears on both racks and a motor on one side. Just take the screws out that hold the underbelly and you’ll be able see which side has the motor.

I cut the flap and there's not enough room to to get on it with a portable drill and socket. It's too close to the frame. So i tried a variety of wigglers and extensions and couldn't get enough torque to turn it.
What gadgets do i need to do this? I have an old 12v drill. I may need to upgrade? Is there a flexible extension that is proven to do the job without self destructing?

We use a ratchet. IF your really going to use it, it is recommended that you remove power to the motor.

Disconnected the battery while the slide was out. I turned it about 10 turns CW with a ratchet and nothing was happening fast. It may have been moving but I couldn't see it. I figure if it's that slow, i need to figure something out. I have bad shoulders.

They are geared down so a 12V motor can move a bunch of weight. Try a 1/2” drive ratchet with an extendable handle, that will give you the leverage. Even the guys with 20V DeWalts don’t try it with a drill motor.

I have a 16" 1/2 drive ratchet. I'll need to cut a bigger hole to get it swinging. Maybe I'll never use it. I don't understand why these aren't manufacture to accommodate manual operation. A hole in the frame would have been nice.

The hope is you never HAVE TO use it. There is worse. Schwintek comes to mind....NIGHTMARE when it totally fails.
