Another new owner question winter question
I have been convinced by this forum to return the winter cover purchased from camping world.
I will put vent covers on and leave it uncovered
Do I only put vent covers over the ceiling vents?
Do I need to do anything to the AC unit?
Also what vent covers so you guys recommend and do the covers stay on all year or just for winter storage.
Once again thanks

Good call on the cover going back.
Yes, you just cover the vents. MaxAirII is what I have currently but have also used Fantasti-vent ultra breeze II. Both work great. Shop around on the Web you can usually save a few bucks that way. Installation is pretty simple.
Yes, they stay on all year.

As for "those other vents", I cut a piece of sheet plastic (a heavy duty trash bag will work) to put under the water heater door and under the side vent on the refrigerator. I also use a piece of that 2" aluminum duct tape (not fabric duck tape) to cover the vents for the furnace and the battery vent (if you're removing your batteries). There is no battery vent on most travel trailers, but fifth wheels do have one.

Your A/C's plastic shell actually takes a much worse beating from the UV exposure year round than it does from snow and water in the winter.
I've never used a cover for the A/C, but on my 11 year old Sunline, the shell was starting to get brittle and would have needed replacement had I kept that trailer.
The vent covers get beat up by the UV also. The one that came on the Cougar from the factory is not a Maxi and it is beginning to show it's age. I added Maxi's on the other two vents when I first got the trailer, and they are not showing their age so much.
Other plastic stuff on the roof like the vent caps on the holding tank vents also deteriorate more from UV than anything else.
FWIW, I consider all these items to be expendable over a 5 to 10 year period. You can prolong the life of them with products like 303, but they will still deteriorate over time.

Maxx Air II vent covers for about 30 bucks. How can you go wrong?

CW was selling MaxAirs for $24 back in August on a special sale, much cheaper than even Amazon at the time. I snagged two of them and a MaxAir II for my shower vent.

Since we just got our Springdale this summer, how much snow can they take before you have to go up on a ladder and push it off? They are talking about a La Nina with a colder and wetter winter coming up.

Way more than you normally get. 12" or greater snowfalls are common up here and no thaws in between. The only time I get out the SnowRake is if there's more than 24" or so on the roof or if we have significant amounts of heavy, wet snow, or rain following a heavy snowfall. These Keystones (and pretty much any other brand) can take a large snow load as long as it is spread evenly over the roof.

That's good, thanks. I think I'd still push it off at 6" or so just because it would be easier. In fact, my leaf blower can take care of it as long as it's still fresh powder.

There is a lot of fragile plastic stuff on top of your RV. If you use a broom or a roof rake, be very careful. Unless you get over 24" or more, I'd suspect you'll do more damage than good by trying to keep it clear of snow. Even the gutter extensions are expensive to replace, probably more expensive than the "damage" that a foot of snow might cause. The colder it gets the more brittle that plastic gets.....

I have never raked my camper roof, not even my newer non-walkable one and it's had well over a couple of feet on it. Personally I'd be afraid of breaking some brittle plastic with the rake and I'm not concerned about the weight.
I also have used a winter cover on all my campers. Here in NH we don't have to worry about continuous high winds or the like but even when we get them my ADCO brand cover is sized to fit well and doesn't buffet.
I love cleaning the camper before winterizing, covering, and then removing the cover in the spring to be greeted by a clean camper again. One year I didn't put it on and had to clean it all over again is the spring.
