Pedestal 30 amp blowing

This season we started blowing the pedestal 30 amp circuit breaker. Only difference between this year and last is I was running a very small dehumidifier in addition to the AC and electric HWH. 2nd weekend in a row for this to happen. Hooked up to 50 amp with a dog bone now. Never happened last season. Do you think the dehumidifier would be enough to overload the pedestal? The TT breaker is not popping.

Do you have a 30A or 50A trailer? I'm assuming you have been using 30A service with a 30A cable and it's blowing the 30A breaker. Now you're using a 50A plug that dogbones to 30A?

I'm pretty sure the dehumidifier will be the cause if you're 30A...sort of like trying to run 2 ACs. Mine is out at the storage barn but I believe that I remember reading that they draw a lot of current. I think the workings are about like a compressor when they kick on and run. I know mine sounds/acts like one. Combine that with running the AC AND the heating element in the HWH and I'm pretty sure you'll pop a 30A.

Sourdough asks some good clarifying questions. I'm thinking something has to go at least temporarily. Maybe use gas for the WH and turn off the electric?

It is a 30A TT. The dehumidifier doesn't have a compressor but does have a heating element in it. Tomorrow I may try the 30A breaker again without the dehumidifier going.

I'm not sure how the dehumidifier operates exactly, but yes, it's very much like an AC compressor that draws moisture from the air - that's what it does. Read the paperwork on your dehumidifier and I think you'll find it draws a lot of current. A 30A trailer (had one) struggles with most anything beyond the AC and a little something////think, normal 20A home circuit and you can run AC and lights? HWH? Not much else. A 30A RV is barely a step above a normal 20A home circuit yet we try to literally run a small home from it with some very large AC consumers. I think you will have to forget the AC/dehumidifier/HWH combo and pick what is important. My thought is this; why are you running the dehumidifier AND the AC? My AC takes out a TON of moisture (15k + 13.5K) and I have no need for a dehumidifier when they are running. ??

I was running both to pull extra moisture out because it's so humid out. The dehumidifier is off now. Thanks.

A dehumidifier is a small air conditioner. It dumps both its warm and cold air into the room theoretically leaving the room temperature unchanged. But the cooling coils still condense moisture out of the air. With their compressor running, they will pull a lot of power.

I've tripped the pedestal with the A/C, microwave and HWH on electric.

So without the dehumidifier running, are you still blowing the pedestal circuit breaker?

At home on my 30A it doesn't blow the breaker with the AC and dehumidifier going. But the HWH was not on. I neglected to try it again on the 30 since it was working on the 50 without the dehumidifier running. I'll try again when we camp next month. Thanks for the help.

I'll bet it's just an overload situation with all the high draw electric items running. Hope you get it figured out on your next trip.

We are currently at a park with only 30 amp pedestals and have our 50 amp Montana connected. We have the fridge running on gas only, and on the days when we needed the A/C , we switched the water heater to gas only. Never once did we trip the breaker. Of course, we can only run one air conditioner at a time. You just need to be conservative with a 30 amp system, as you've only got 3600 Watts of capacity.
