DirectTV set up

I just finished getting DirecTV set up in our new 2011 Cougar 326MKS. I just thought I'd post the wiring situation i discovered. I tracked all the coax wiring in the camper. On this camper there is one Sat input in the exterior utility access panel (with water intake and ext shower). This single coax goes up into the frame and directly to the bedroom with no splitters. In the bedroom is located the antenna amp and a dual coax input that has one line from the sat in and the other linked to the antenna amp.
The antenna amp has one input coming from the antenna and two outputs. One output goes right next to it in the bedrooms dual coax in and the other output goes through a splitter that then goes to the living room and the underneath storage compartment (where a tv could be set outside).
This means that there is no way a sat signal can make it to the living room since it is a direct feed to the bedroom only.
Since a slimline DirecTV setup requires a direct connection with no splitters I was able to have a box in the bedroom with no problems. Since the living room coax in is only connected to the antenna I drilled a hole through the back side of the slide out and added a coax in with an exterior cover (that flips up) and sealed it with silicone. This allows for two separate direct connections into the camper and leaves the existing antenna wiring alone in case we ever want to use it.
I labeled all the coax and drew a diagram that I taped to the wall next to the antenna amp for any future owners. I know every camper may be different but this is how ours is wired. Hope it helps. BTW, the small coax tracking tool was purchased from Home Depot for about $20. Might never need it again but is sure helped here.

I also rewired my rig to support two Directv receivers using the factory coax. The only mods I had to make was to bypass the splitters located in the wall cavity behind the rv antenna amp receptacle located in the bedroom. I now have two coax feeds from my multiswitch dish to the cable and Sat inputs outside, whichnow feed directly to the bedroom and living room receivers.

To have direct tv running to any coax outlet all you need to do is have the power inserter hooked up before any splits and the receivers will work any where. You could actually but it in right behind the outside input if you have 120 outlet to plug it into.

My 2011 doesn't have separate wiring for cable and satellite so this was not an option for me, there is only one SAT IN. It would have helped if it did. Seems to me they should have some consistency in the way they wire these things and at least leave a diagram of it for the owners and label the wall outlets.

The satellite prep is irrelevant. I hooked my power inserter up and ran a line from it to the "cable" hookup on the outside of my rv. All four of my coax outlets in the rv worked when I put the hardwire direct tv genie on each of them . Seems the satellite prep is only good if you have one satellite receiver and want to watch it's output in multiple rooms.

the tech that installed it could not get the tv in the bedroom "to tone"
so now i have to run a cable thur the basement and then thur the window
i dont care for that bugs and small critters
when we bought the unit we were told that it was prepped for direct tv
could there be something crossed?

Do you have the slimline oval HD dish?

If so where is the power inserter at?

Wired or witless genies?

Sounds like you have the same problem as the original poster. The trailers are not wired to watch more than one satelitte or cable channel on the other TVs. When I bought my 2014 and had an Antenna put on it they had to rewire all 4 ports in the trailer to be able to put 3 different boxes on the system.

It is entirely possible that the coax is not connected, or not connected correctly, or a whisker between the signal and shield causing no picture. There is a series of tests you can do to verify the integrity and proper routing, it takes a bit of time, an ohm meter and a jumper with clips. PM me if you want the details. I just spent 4 hours last week chasing coax in a '14 Grand Design Reflection. Found 5 bad cable ends and 2 mis routed coax.
