How big a tow vehicle

The plan has been to buy one of two Springdales TT's already set up in a resort that we vacation at. BUT, now the question of going other places has come up. I know squat about TT and even less about what tow vehicles would be appropriate.
I understand total weight and tongue weight play a part. How do I correlate trailer weight into size of tow vehicle that is best?

2006 Springdale 266 RELL GL

Any of the 1500 series of trucks by any of the manufactures out there with a 140" wheel base should be fine to haul this camper. Not being used to towing an extended wheel base truck can provide greater stability while a 2500 will give you better all around control.

other is 2010 291 RKS SR

Weight wise the 1500 should be ok but my concern would be the length of the trailer. I would want a crew cab or extended box to stretch my wheelbase into the 160's. I am not sure I would want to tackle that length and weight without a 2500 series truck.

Now if you are just thinking about moving it from one site to another as a seasonal when your current location no longer suits you, buy a weigh distribution hitch system and just rent a truck. I can rent a F350 or F250 at Budget or Home Depot for $50 a day. Have your own hitch and weight distro, make sure you have insurance on your TT for towing as there are policy that covers them on their own and your good to go.

Well you would not go wrong with a 3/4 ton truck of any make, properly equipped but you could also do both with a carefully configured 1/2 ton like the Ford F-150 Eoboost (3.5L DI Turbo powered) with the HD towing and payload package. The good thing about the EB is better non towing fuel mileage the down side is it will cost as much or more than a 3/4 truck

Do you have a truck already? Is it going to be your daily driver?

Some half tons would do fine with the first one, the second one you are pushing it, but if you don't have a TV yet why not look at a 3/4 ton or better?
My small block does fine with the trailer in my sig.

Edit, my trailer is as long as those and I have to say I have the E2 WD and Sway control hitch and they work well, but I am certain my long wheel base is what makes sway almost non-exsistant. Not even when rigs pass me going the other direction or going down hill do I feel any type of sway. Just something to think about.

The 291 is a long trailer. While a properly-equipped half-ton may do the job a longbed 3/4-ton will provide a much more comfortable tow. And if you have never experienced an uncomfortable tow believe me, you want to keep it that way.

I would not get anything under 3/4 tow dealer may tell you it's 1/2 ton towable but you will soon wish for bigger .i have a10 year old dodge quad cab long bed pull 40 ft 5th wheels had a 29ft but it still does ok

Buy a good truck

I have a gas 06 chevy c2500hd and love it. Make sure you get the right truck before you spend a lot of money on a camper or truck. If you don't it will cost you down the road one way or another. Good luck to you.
