Holding Entry Door Open

I have friction hinges on my entry door which are ok. The wind sometimes blows it around though. I would like a way to secure the storm door in the open position. Any solutions or good ideas out there?

You can use the same door holds that RVs used for years before the friction hinge came along.

Would that be a magnetic closure? Just sticks to the fiberglass and fastens to the door with screws or something like that?

I agree with Smitty. I installed this on my Cougar 25RES and it works great.

Just put a piece of butyl tape behind each one and run the screws through it. If you use self tapping screws, it’s an easy install

I wouldn’t use self tapping screws, they will fail in a short time….seen it on customer units.

I use magnets secured with 3M VHB adhesive. I did this when I removed the gas strut that held mine open so I could install MorRyde steps. Two magnets secure the door and it has never blown closed.

I prefer this same latch type in stainless steel, it won't break or bend.

The friction door is supposed to resist movement in winds up to 20 mph. Any more than that and I'm staying inside!

Now, now. If I did that in my world I would never come out! Sort of a nice day today....about 35mph and dust everywhere. Normal stuff for most of the year anymore it seems. Of course that's why I leave here.

I'm with you!
Lived in the Texas panhandle the 1st 45 years of my life, 20 mph is a nice cooling breeze, 30+ was normal daily winds, 50+ mph gusts not out of ordinary, thought that's the way it was everywhere............not so!
Yep! Left there & don't ever intend to live there again!

I have folks ask about the weather in Amarillo, Lubbock & other places in the panhandle & I say it's ALWAYS too something, too hot, too cold, too windy, too dusty, too little rain, too much rain, too many tornadoes, but rarely too pretty.
I transferred to the Ft Worth area in '95, as we're unpacking after finding a house the DW looking out the picture window says, "come look at this" it was raining & I said "at what?" " the rain" she says "yea" & she said "it's coming straight down, I didn't know I ever came straight down, it's always rained sideways before!".

I was stationed in Hawaii and came up for orders. I tried to stay in Hawaii where the average temperature is 75°F. The detailer sent me to South Texas telling me the average temperature there was 75°F - what he didn't tell me was that it was 120°F during the day and 30°F at night!

Back on topic:

I have these if the OP wants them:

I was going to do this but did not because it would allow the door to hit the awning arm. Before you make a move Make sure the door won’t hit the awning when the awning is deployed.

Have used a magnetic on ours for years. I did have to replace it after 3 years just because of minor rust.

I just recently removed the gas strut from the bottom our entry door and installed 2 sets of magnets with 3M tape and it works well. I like the main door wide open for better view weather permitting. Amazon packer must have been lazy as I received a whole box of 6 pairs when the add stated 2 pieces.
