Sf-30f gas pressure regulator

Hello, I just joined. I have a 2008 Outback and last trip the furnace would not stay lit. I removed it checked the sail switch, hi limit, igniter, all checked out. When I opened the igniter chamber I found particles of rust all over. I removed the gas orfice and it was clogged, I’m fairly certain that was the problem. I blew out the clog with compressed air. I figured what the hell I’ll just blow out everything from the gas inlet on the furnace and threw the end of the pressure regulator. I’m afraid I could have forced the regulator to close because I put my mouth over the inlet and no air is making it through after putting everything back together. Could I have destroyed the regulator?

Welcome to the forum

If your talking about the gas valve on the furnace, you won’t get ANY flow until 12VDC is applied to the solenoid. It’s not a regulator, just a shut off valve that is electrically controlled.

If you have the furnace out, you can “bench test” it. You will need 12V and a regulated LP supply. If you only testing for the gas valve to open then you could rig up a hose to blow through. LP flows at about 1 1/2 PSI so do not use compressed air.

Hook up 12V to the power and ground. Then hold the 2 blue wires together and the furnace should start its cycle. After about 15-30 seconds you should hear the igniter clicking, and at that time you can test for flow.

Your messaged saved the day bro. I just bench tested it and works perfectly. I knew you could test the blower with a 12v battery but i didn’t know you could test it with a propane regulator. Thank you
