First Post

Greetings all.
I joined earlier in the year to do some research. For the most part, all for not, as we purchased an RV that wasn’t in our sights, but have found to hit all about marks, in any event. So many models and makes, and dealerships…oh the dealership stories! Appearantly “Excellent condition” is very subjective.
We private purchased a 2016 Cougar 24sabwe. It is in mint condition from hitch to spare tire, and from tread to antenna. We pick it up tomorrow. I am sure I will have questions and look forward to finding the answers and contributing within the goal posted of my knowledge.
Safe travels, all.

Rk

Welcome aboard! Glad you found us. This is a great place to ask questions and get help. Also a great place to share what you've learned for the benefit of others.

Congrats on the new purchase!

First, welcome to the forum. A lot of good information, experience and knowledge on here. This knowledge sometimes comes with a bitter pill but I can assure you the folks on here only have your best interest in mind as well as your safety.
Second, not sure of your RV experience but if you are making a purchase from a dealership and some form of inspection (a check of ALL operating systems on the trailer) is available prior to purchase, use it. With the high number of sales recently and the shortage of parts and qualified labor, dealer service is going to difficult to obtain. Adding to this, your trailer will be hungry for your attention addressing repair and maintenance. Any mechanical skill sets you have and a reasonable cadre of tools will be needed. Stuff happens and stuff breaks, that is a given with these toys.
Third, make sure you have "more truck than trailer". Your first post did not mention your TV (tow vehicle). Also a WDH ( weight distribution hitch, there are a lot of acronym's on here) is a must. Hitching up and having your truck rear end lowered and the headlights searching for aircraft is not recommended.
A great tool you can use now is the member signature that is added to each post you make. Showing the truck and trailer information eliminates chasing or guessing from those that want to help. Any questions you have are welcome and sometimes photos will expedite a correct response. There is a link to post photos on the forum.
Good luck

Thanks LT.
This is our 5th trailer unit over the last 19 years. Very experienced in mechanical and trouble shooting after growing up on a hobbie farm, and a dad who never bought new. I do much of my on repairs and vehicle oil changes, brakes and such.
Thought I plugged in all the details, but will have. A look.
If nothing else, I tend to over research/YouTube/read up on my purchases and never, ever, take a salesman’s word at face value (sometimes I wonder why they assume the customer is daft).
Look forward to the discussions!
Cheers!

Your quote "from tread to antenna" indicates the tire tread "looks" good. That's a a 6-7 year old trailer, if the tires are original they need to be replaced before you travel too much, 4-5 years is the typical lifespan for rv tires regardless of tread appearance. Check the date codes on all 5 tires to determine their age, if more than 5 years replace all 5. If you need tire recommendations, search this forum or ask in another post.

So many new folks on here. Makes it hard to know what experience levels are sometimes. Hope my info helps other readers that might need it, you never know.
Again, welcome.
