New Memeber/New to RV
Just jumped into RVing. Hope all my problems will be manageable and my adventures will be enjoyable. 90 days to retirement and spending that time readying the rig and getting familiar. I will be visiting the different topics and watching for helpful ideas. Thanks for allowing me and my 368mbi to join.

Welcome! Good luck & congratulations on your retirement!
Hope you have a plenty of truck, that's a big rv, in 1 ton truck territory.
If you go to the "user CP" in the black bar, drop down to "edit signature" to add the make, model & year of your rv & tow vehicle along with any other helpful information, then drop down to "save changes". This info will be on the ottom of every post you write making the answers appropriate to your setup without constantly being ask "what _______ do you have?".

Interesting 5er comes from the factory with a hitch weight at just less than 17%.
Here are the specs;
Shipping Weight 11,847 lb.
Carrying Capacity 2,133 lb.
GVWR 13,980 lb.
Hitch 1,980 lb.
Length 39 ft 4 in
Height 12 ft 11 in

Most folks experiences are the "shipping weights" are useless as they don't relate to the reality of a trailer once the batteries have been installed, the propane tanks filled, and the owner has loaded it for use. Now if someone wished to buy it, store it as a "trophy" and not use it then it might be relevant.

Well not sure what is more relevant, the pin weight percentage or the ridiculous low payload of a almost 40’ 5er of 2,133#!
I will state the OP will not be aware that they may be exceeding their payload! We towed 1,500# to 1,700# over the GVWR of our 2001 Ram 2500. It tow fine and handled fine, I just didn’t like the legal limbo that being that far over GVWR. Still within both axle ratings, but was uncomfortable being that far over. The 3.55 rear end with a 5 speed manual, not great for off the line!
This is the biggest issue with trying to lead people to get the correctly sized TV for their 5er, as the towing experience won’t likely tell them!

I agree, the biggest "plus" for fivers ( handling) is what can end up bitting the unaware. With a travel trailer control issues will appear quickly but a fiver often gives a false sense of "everything is great" until it isn't, and then it may be too late to recover. It's sorta like seeing the inexperienced 4 wd owners when it snows. They tend to be overconfident and end up being the ones needing rescue.

Congrats on your retirement, and happy for you that you have made sure you have something to occupy your time. RVing is a great way to do that. I retired 13 years ago, and I can honestly say it’s been the greatest time of my life. Period. It’s like being 18 again, except you’re smarter, and have some money. Have fun and stay on top of your maintenance.
