Viair pump

Looking at purchasing a air pump for my 5th wheel. Be thinking of the V AIR PUMP. they have several different models ranging from 75.00 - 400.00 in price. Anyone have one or anyone who can recommend one model over the other.

I mounted a Viair pump under my bed for a set of train horns back in 2009. Still there and still working as good as new. Don’t remember what model, IMO you can’t go wrong using them.

IMO Viair makes one of the best, if not the best, 12v air pumps out there. The models cover all kinds of scenarios from something like 33% duty cycle to 100%. Some want the compressor mounted in the truck with a reserve air tank which is very handy. Some like me just have the portable unit. I have the 400 (believe it is a P) and it works like a champ. I will say the little coiled, yellow? hose that comes with it kinked the first time I tried to use it but I don't like them anyway - carry a 25' regular air hose with me for it and a 50' for the 120v Fini. IMO you can't go wrong with one and I would get the best one you can afford.

When we went from our 2001 Ram CTD with a PacBrake activated by compressed air, to our 2016 I really missed "On Board" air.

Got a VIAIR constant duty 150 psi with 2.5 gallon tank, also mounted under the bed. I have chucks in the bed by the tailgate, and one under the hood. I need to get a picture of the compressor and tank with the wiring cleaned up!
I fabricated a saddle mount for the compressor bracket.

We bought the vi-air 300p A few years ago, it seems to do well airing up trailer and truck tires, outs go to 65 psi. Theyre supposedly one of the better ones on the market. I'd buy it again.

So it only airs up the tires to 65 psi?

Bob look at the specs for each unit. I don't know about the 300 but mine airs my truck to 80psi and trailer to 110 with no issue.

I think the 300 goes to 150 psi. Our tires max out at 65, it was steadily climbing at 65 psi. The attached gauge on the hose end is just about useless.

Agreed about the included gauge and hose. I have the hose I mentioned above and an inline gauge with trigger to get to where I want to be.

I bought a Viair 450RV, when my pancake compressor wouldn't inflate the 110 psi tire on the new Avalanche. It was one of the best decisions I made last year. Quick and easy to use for both the trailer and the dually..

I also have the 450RV best purchase I’ve made. Takes a lot less footprint in cargo bay and a lot lighter than a tank compressor . I think you cant go wrong with this one.

Here is some pictures of the pump. I haven’t had a chance to go out and use it yet today. Will try a little later. It seems really solid. Their are two long hoses, the gauge seems pretty stout. It’s a heavy well constructed compressor and the case is sturdy and practical.

I bought the Viair 300P-RVS Portable Tire Compressor Kit For RV Towables - 150 PSI from RVupgrades for $139.95 with free shipping. Took them longer to ship than it should have but it arrived today. Checked my truck tires and works very well. It would be nice if the power cord was a little longer.

I’ve had two different Viair compressor. The first was a 33% duty cycle mounted underneath the cab in a plastic battery box, trying to keep road grime off it. The pump still looked new but got to the point it would blow a 40 amp circuit breaker. It feed into a 2.5 gallon tank.

New truck I mounted it inside a large toolbox in the bed, just can’t crawl underneath anymore. I upgraded the compressor to a 100% duty cycle. Same 2.5 gallon air tank, also mounted in the toolbox. Quick disconnect fittings mounted to the toolbox. It’s also used for a set of air horns.

Over time they act just like the oil less compressors, runs longer to build pressure. The current one is about 4 years old and I no longer run it all the time, just when I need to air up a tire. Don’t get to play with the air horns much any more.

Several things to watch, drain the tank often if the air pressure switch is mounted towards the bottom of the tank it can fill with goop from the tank and continue to run the compressor.

The compressor is about $200.00 but you can get a overhaul kit to rebuild the compressor end for about $80.00. Mine is due.

I never considered this. Did you mount the air unit under your truck?

Do you mount that yourself? And what type of truck do you have?

No, the model I purchased is not designed to mount in a fixed location.

I could have purchased one that was; but preferred the portability over a solid mount.

You might want to visit the Viair.com site because they have some that are designed to mount underneath the truck and come with the brackets to do that. If I remember they designed them to use existing holes in the frame.
