Toilet Paper...
So, we've ascribed to theory that any tp that breaks apart when shaken in a jar of water will do. We usually use Kirkland (Costco), but weren't able to get any. It's starting to look like we will need to pick up more or less whatever we can get pretty soon. We were able to get a roll of Angel Soft and one of Northern. The Angel Soft broke up and the Northern did not.
So currently our list of eligible products includes:
Kirkland,
Angel Soft,
and anything specifically labeled for RV.
Wondering what you use that has passed the break apart test?

Walmart's Great Value, Everyday Soft breaks down pretty well. That's what we've been using. We don't buy this many at a time but it's the same stuff.

We've used Quilted Northern Plush for at least a decade. It doesn't need to break down, it just needs to go out the pipe. If you use an adequate amount of water you can use whatever you want.

I'm not sure how it is where you are but toilet paper, and preferences here, are out the window. You MIGHT get some rolls if you are at the door (6-7am) the morning after the truck runs at night....MAYBE. It looks like you can get the RV tissue more easily. I suppose we might find out in the near future. Having some kind of TP beats using a lettuce leaf and the "iceberg" that follows....

You have a point. I don't want to know how you know this, and don't ask me how I know.

If it states "septic safe" & not a bazillion plies then any brand you prefer should be fine, RV specific is not mandatory.

The supply chains haven't dried up. Two things are bound to happen soon. Most hoarders will have an irrational amount of TP stock piled in closets and pantries just waiting for the exact month (or year) to open each pack.
Secondly, the replenishments will begin to over-saturate store shelves and there will be pickens galore for anyone looking to keep their 'undercarriage' clean.
Then, as unemployment hits Great Depression levels, people will consider TP the lowest 'non-essential' item on their shopping lists and reexamine their previous buying decisions. I wish I was joking.

Like TT said earlier, TP ain't being thrown in the waste can in our house either. And the statement from earlier "If you use an adequate amount of water you can use whatever you want." Don't bet on that. It DOES need to break down. We have always used Scott's RV, but as stated, most any septic tank paper will do.

I guess I just don't get out much. I know of the RV TP but have never heard of septic safe TP. I've been a homeowner since the mid 60's and always on septic systems. We've been where we are now for 29 yrs and no septic problems

We have never put any thought into specific TP, and use what we use at home (on a septic system). We rarely stay at any place for more than 3-4 days at at time and with 2 adults and a 6 year old have never filled the tank to max. We empty and flush the tank (black water flush fitting) until it runs clear upon departure, and have not had any issues all the years we have been RVing. I have even used my GoPro-like camera once (in it’s waterproof housing) on a telescoping rod and looked in the tank after a flush and it does get remarkably “clean” in there. Your own experience can be largely dependent on individual preference, camping style, etc. but for me, life is too short to wipe my *** with a lettuce leaf!

WE use whatever Betty says we are going to use. And Betty says we are going to use Scotts RV TP.
As usual...WalMart, in the RV section.

Your black tank is simply a holding tank, not a septic system, no breakdown is needed or even likely.

The reason you want “dissolving” TP is so that it doesn’t hang up on the sensors. That’s one of the leading causes of false readings. I have lost count of how many customers bring thier unit in with “black tank reads full all the time”. Or it reads full after 1 or 2 flushes. Every time, a good tissue digester and a little time has cleared the problem. And I can say what I say after 9 years of dealing with thousands of black tanks.

Customer1, this ain't my first rodeo. Take a few sheets of Scott's RV, maybe five of them, wad them up and put in a glass full of water. In 20 seconds take the TP out and unfold it and lay it flat. Much to YOUR surprise it will already be broken down, ready for a trip through the tank, valves and hose.
I personally don't care if you choose to use cardboard vs TP, but newbies to RV'ing come here for accurate info. Let's give it to them.

You know your "s..t" Jim! Although RV toilet paper is an abomination, having a little mountain of real tp in the bottom of the tank is a reality that should be avoided. The magic wand ceremony and all the poop pellets needed to dislodge the TP mountain will teach the novice that using the plush paper is a really poor idea.
