Angry RVing in the Keys

Has anyone ever been asked to "move over" after being setup for a couple of weeks. They say they parked me too far one way on an empty site now they can't wedge in another RV. Irritating but I don't want to get run off with no place to go. I haven't done anything yet, and will give more details on the specific park in the keys if not worked out amiably.

How did "they" park you and who are "they"?

I parked the trailer with an escort showing me where to park. Once parked he checked everything and said, "Perfect!". Now, they (the park manager) has decided I'm over the line with my slideout out.

I typically ignore the cg "escorts". When they take me to the sight I'll ask them where the "countries" are and thank them. If they "insist" on guiding me in I let do their thing and just dismiss what them as they are back there "swatting" flies. I know my trailer, my truck, it's size and how it turns and where the slide outs land better than they do.

With that said, it's their house, their rules so you have 2 choices, accept it or leave. I'd voice my displeasure on the way out with the manager and who knows they may try to compensate but that's probably unlikely. In a situation where there are few available and in high demand vacancies you will be at their mercy.

It could be that they "normally don't park "trailers with slides on both sides" on the space next to you and, for some reason this time it's an issue. Maybe the "new camper" bought a "new camper" after making the reservations, maybe they're full, trying to accommodate something bigger than normal, so those people don't have to leave, maybe the "assistance" really did screw up and now, it's got to be fixed. Who knows what the reason might "really be", but apparently, now is the time that management wants it fixed.

It's "their park, their rules" so not a lot you can do about it except follow the rules. Think of it this way: If you were renting a house, wanted to install a fence around the back yard, you'd need to check with the landlord before "marking the space". If the rental company (parking assistance) said OK, and on Friday, the "actual owner" said, "no, if you're going to put one in, it has to be here".... Maybe it's that kind of thing?????

Anyway, not much you can do but move or leave. There's no "squatter's rights" on a "day to day" or "week to week" campground rental. Essentially, they own it, they control it.

So you must be stuffed in like sardines! Not like to find another park at this time how much longer you planing on staying? How much are they asking you to move, and just how close will you be to the new neighbors?
Just move, should not be that big of deal.

Looks like a "quid pro quo" is in order. Have you been to the 0 mile festival? Our son droped in for lunch on the way down Tuesday.

It's not as though you have to pick up/put away everything you have out, just disconnect the rv, move the cord/hoses over & move over a foot or however far & plug it back in. BTDT! Or pack up & leave mad.

You will need to move IMO. I have had it happen to me and I have done it to others.

I've had spotters that "guide" me into a spot but only I know my slides, their depth etc. and don't let them get me where I'm extending into what would be another space. If you are then you would need to move. If not, and they ask you to move anyway, you need to since it's their place.

If you are in a place that is so close that 2 trailers with slides on both sides cannot get in side by side or is "almost touching" think about another park. I've been in one, one time and have done everything I can since then to reserve a site that has plenty of room. There is a park near us that doesn't even have enough room between sites for an awning to be fully extended. Can't do it. If you just pulled in and took whatever was available then it comes with the territory. I've seen lots of parks in the Keys area that appear to be very cramped.

In the keys, it's all about real estate. There's only so much sand, and if you don't float, space is limited. I can understand making 5 spaces out of the area that normally is 4 or maybe even 3, if it's in places with limited sand.

What rubbed me the wrong way was a campground just west of Hill City when we toured Custer State Park, Mt. Rushmore and that area. Real estate is "vast wide open spaces, yet the spot we reserved was taken and the campground "accommodated us" in what I think was a tent site with full hookups. We opened our "single slide" (not dual opposing slides) and the neighbor couldn't open their awning. There was a tent on the curb side for the first 4 days of our week long stay. On the 5th day, a "opposing slide toy hauler" moved in, and when they extended their slide, we didn't have room to open our entry door. They couldn't move further away because their "curb side slide" wouldn't open if they did. So, for the next 3 days, they "lived with their slide half open" and we "squeezed out of the trailer to sit in lawn chairs under the overhang of our fifth wheel.

While it's frustrating and disappointing in the Keys, at least I can understand the limited space to even put a campground, but in the mountains, in an unspoiled "vast wilderness" ??? Hmmmmmm

Crowded RV site

I know how you feel...very valuable real estate just like the Keys...only asphalt in Tulsa. LOL
I've used this site for many years. I didn't think about the deeper slide...slide in a slide on the new to us Landmark. I opened my door into the motorhome slide, the other 5th opened his door into me. We all got along fine. Not a lot of outdoor activities in January. Moving to a bigger site next year.

Used to be rv parks tried to make sights "nice" for the prospective traveler. Now with the exploding number of RVers they are just worried about how many "can I pack in". Case in point;

We stay in this park every year and reserve the same site; large, open and lots of room. The new owner said she was going to improve the park, add lots of sites, new swimming pool etc. The sites were to be 35' wide. Around Thanksgiving I asked if I could see the plans. Hmmm, the widest site was 26'. Then across the front there were to be 7 sites; that changed to 9 because, she said, she could "fit" more in. Now they're going to be tight and short trying to "pack" them in. Some of the new sites are in; plowed in water, power, sewer and TV. the ground is just sand leveled with the scoop of a front end loader....they are packing in before roads get made or anything else. Not sure what the future holds for RV parks.

I'm thinking some parks will kill the goose that laid the golden egg. I'd rather pay more money than have less room. After those crowded conditions are posted on RV park review sites they might see a drop in revenue.
The RV park where I took the pics is on the fairground property. I've used it 10+ years for my annual trek to Tulsa for the indoor midget car races. It's very handy to step out of the RV onto the shuttle bus and ride to the EXPO Center about 300 yards away in 25 degree weather. Also prevents a DUI.

I can understand a tight spot if there's an attraction that renders the camper just "a place to sleep". I've been in a few where I couldn't extend the awning or was so tight it made it difficult to get out of the truck . I chose not to return to them.

Maybe I'm a bit claustrophobic or maybe it's the thought of squeezing my + size belly by but man when I see a pic like above where the units are that tight my first thought goes to "could I safely get my family out of there if there was a fire?

I think Brent has it right. We have discussed coming back here and we will one more time to see what has transpired next fall. The problem you have, to me, is greed and knowing that the RV population is growing by leaps and bounds. Couple that to a beautiful tourist area and this is what you get.

The first time I saw the plans the sites were reasonably wide and plenty long, curving access roads with easy ingress/egress - lots of pull thrus. What I saw being put in didn't look like what I had seen the first time (plans drawn up by an engineer that did RV parks). The owner said "that guy was wasting too much space; I'm not going by that; haven't they ever heard of "as builts"?

I've never wanted, or owned, a 5th wheel and was happy with my travel trailers. I now have a deposit on a full profile 37' HC. I'm not sure I'll have any use for a 25' x 50' space....even though we love this place - and I'm not the only one of the regulars that feel that way. Yep, killing the goose that laid the golden egg sounds pretty right.

If you are looking for a newer park in central FL take a look at Belle Parc RV Resort in Brooksville FL. I have driven through this park and it is nice but a little pricey for my shallow pockets.

I have never been to, nor do I ever wish to go to a campground where the spaces were so tight I had to worry if my slide went across some imaginary line into someone elses space. At that point id just go to a resort or something and stay in a nice room, cause that sure wouldnt be enjoyable to me.

That looks like combat camping, no room for an awing. Stayed at a casino lot once it was snug but had a small patch of grass between units, those pictures are insane.

^^^"The "campground" isn't the attraction. It is perfect for me, and I assume the others, for what we are using it for. It has full hook ups and is 100% paved. I use it every January. Usually January in Tulsa Oklahoma isn't somewhere I want to sit outside in shorts and flip flops sipping a margarita and grilling burgers. It's usually raining, sleeting, and or snowing.
The attraction is next door:

Whatever pulls your trigger.
But that's about what most NASCAR RV lots look like except they're on grass. You had better get a reservation.
The company and hanging out in the RV lot is what makes the weekend more enjoyable.
Would I want to go there and sit for an entire weekend without a race? No.
