They work pretty good if traveling in a group. We did not put one in our current truck.

Same here. Time has moved on and there are so many ways to communicate. Used to be every semi had the big CB whips sticking up....you just don't see them now like you used to.

Foul mouth truckers killed the CB.

There was a country artist in the 70s I think was named "CB McCall" who recorded a great song about coming down Wolf Creek Pass without any brakes. Lots of "CB" language in the song and was funny. I agree that maybe too many foul mouths kind of killed the whole CB thing. Mainly we had them here in the west for when we were in the out-back and might need assistance. Now everyone, even little kids, have cell phones.
DW and I still use small walkie-talkies (are they even called that anymore?) to communicate when hitching up or at dog shows when one is at the trailer and the other at the show rings. Technology moves so fast now.

We have one from the days when you had to have a license to operate it (unlike ham there was no test; the government just wanted $$). We'll pull it out occasionally and listen; too much useless chatter. If you want traffic info (which is what it was best for) then I suggest you use one of the phone apps (Google maps, iPhone maps, Waze ...). Our TV and stand-alone GPS units provide traffic, but it seems the phone is quicker to note issues.

We tried to use cell phones for communicating, but sometimes the delay made them impractical for maneuvering. Walkie-talkies (yes, they're still marketed as that) work best for us.

We keep some FRS walkies handy for when we convoy.. they’ve proven useful when backing into a campsite too. Two-way radio is definitely an advantage over phones and text.

Yes Walkies. I have Motorola waterproof floating ones so one can go in the boat and wife radios when she wakes up.

It is my experience that many rv-ers have switched to ham radios. The license requirements are very easy, you have better range, and much more flexibility. I use 2m/70cm while traveling and switch to HF when parked. K0BEL.

I haven’t used a CB in many years. Other than truckers most people here don’t use them anymore. Last time I used one it was just truckers and colourful language. I used to have one for communicating with my motorcycle touring friends on the road but they’ve all moved on to communication headsets now.

Getting an entry level ham license is easy, just takes some study time. It is very doable. Glad that I finally did. de KC0Rx.

I have one in my truck and use it all the time. Truckers are still talking and they give good info on alternate routes when things get backed up. If you're traveling and you see a big Raptor with SD plates, give a shout out to Dr D. I'll surely answer your call.
