Truck trade?...Maybe?

So for the last month or so I have been kicking around the idea of trading in my leased 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab with the 6.2 liter engine 8 speed transmission and max towing package on a new 2500 crew cab. The GMC has 16000 miles on it and I have about 8 lease payments left on it, the new truck would be about 25.00 more a month payment. My camper is a 31 RBDS Hideout, dry it weighs 7700LBs. The GMC tows it ok but we don't usually go that far from home and only go camping about 7-8 times in a season. I just want to get some others opinions on what they think keep the GMC and buy it out at the end of the lease (the payments would be about the same) or go for that little extra piece of mind with the 2500. If I look at the numbers correctly the tow capacity on the 2500 is only like 1200LBS more than the 1500....I also wanted to ad it is me my wife and 2 kids who go camping. THANKS!

Buzzy, I suspect this might not be the correct forum to bring up this subject, but it would be my opinion that you should be more concerned with the financial situation you are in. If you are down to the point of being aware of a $25.00 difference in payments then I believe you should be headed down a different path. You have already paid for four years on a truck from which you will receive no financial benefit. Now you are contemplating financing a 2015 truck that you've already paid for.
I don't mean to sound like you mom and dad ragging at you about your money, well, yes I do. You owe it to your family to take a step back and rethink your next move. I know you asked about the differences between half ton and three quarter ton, but the finances should come first.
Imagine waking up one morning and not having credit car bills, or a truck note.

You are probably going down the road with 9000 lbs behind your truck.

If $ is not a problem - go with the 2500HD. More towing capacity and allot better braking. I think the 2500 will come with the allison tranny too. I would go with a crew cab long box. More room in the truck and easier to carry stuff in the box. With a better tow rig you might plan some longer trips.

Shop around - if you would consider a Ford or Dodge they might make a deal to get you to switch brand.

I purchased a GM because I wanted the allison transmission. Dodge now has the Asisan tranny - my next TV may be a Dodge.

Leases are a valid option for some people. Often, a better financial decision than buying a new car/truck every 1-3 years, like so many people do.

Buzzy - look at your residual on the truck. IF this is "under market", you can buy it out at the end of the lease and see if this is financially advantageous in terms of selling it outright or trading it in for the 2500.

If you don't go far and don't go often, upgrading trucks is about a lifestyle choice - another 1200 lbs isn't much..
