Mor/ryde or similar

Anyone have any experience with the rubber pin box system offered by mor/ryde, trailair and similar companies to stop or reduce chucking on fifth wheels?

yes and in my opinion they are worth it especially on a heavier trailer. You can find numerous reviews on the different systems, I can't tell you if one is any better than the other. I have the tailair rota flex on mine which is one of the cheaper models. I'm glad I didn't pay more because it works great and is a huge improvement over the standard pin box

We have the MorRyde pin box on our rig. It was part of the package, along with the MorRyde suspension system. It works for us, much better than the previous 25 foot 5th wheel we had that had a solid kingpin. With the terrible roads around the country, it is almost required to have some type of cushioning to handle the bridge transitions and other rough areas.

thank you both for the reply's.
I had never even heard of the rota flex. Nice price as well.
Does it replace the entire pin box?

Yes it is a complete swap out just like the others. Some of the more expensive models may do more to dampen the lo but I am very happy with the it. My wife used to complain about how rough the camper towed as we bounced steady, it was like riding a mechanical bull. No complaints with the rota flex.

We have the Mor/ryde. Night and day difference from standard pin box. Dramatic reduction in chucking.

I have the mor-ryde and highly recommend it. It stopped almost all the chucking and the small clunk I had starting and stopping.

I put a Moryde on my current 5th wheel. It works well but not as good as the 5 airborne I had on my previous 5th wheel. The moryde is half the cost. The 5th airborne has an air bag and a shock obsorber so does obsorbe more of the road shock.
What model # pin box do you have? I have the 5th airborne for sale. It wouldn't fit my new Fusion. It fits a lippert 1620 or 1621HD.

I swapped mine to a MorRyde and love it. It has removed almost all of the chucking. On the next one I will get the TrailAir TriGlide so it has the best of both worlds. Front and Back, Up and Down.

Brent:
Do you think the Roto Flex is helping any with up and down jolting? Their website hints that it does, other brands websites seems to be purposely vague on vertical reduction.
Anyone using Demco Glide Ride?

I don't notice the up and down with the rota flex. There is a road near our house that our last 5er would really get a lot of bounce, but it is smooth with the current 5er and rota flex. I've towed it with my previous 2500 and my new 3500 and both trucks had the same smooth ride.

One thing I cannot speak to is how much is the result of the rota flex and how much is due to the new 5er. Bouncing and chucking seem to be a pretty common complaint from just about everyone towing a 5er so I assume the hitch is the biggest reason.

Our 5er came with the Trail Air Rota Flex, and after a year, I changed it out for the Trail Air Tri Glide. After making the switch, I will NEVER tow another large fifth wheel without the Tri Glide. Period!

John,

I might be interested, what are you hoping to get for the airborne?

I have it listed for $500 obo. I am on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Do you currently have a Lippert 1621 pin box? If interested, send me a private message and I will give you my phone number so we can talk.

Good grief kids...I've been on the 'net all afternoon looking at pinboxes. Seems everyone makes the TrailAir....Lippert, UltraFab, etc. I feel like I'm chasing my tail.
I suppose my dilemma is that folks say the MorRyde is great and the TrailAir is great. There is $1000 difference. Argh.....

Bottom line is you get what you pay for. Moryde is a huge improvement over the standard pin box and is reasonably priced at around $500.00. You order the pin box based on the weight of your trailer. It is fairly simple with not much to go wrong. The Trail Air and 5th Airborne both use an adjustable air bag and a shock absorber to tame the beast. You inflate the air bag to a line on the shock which will compensate for the pin weight of the trailer. It costs about $900 to $1500 depending on the model. I have had both and the 5th airborne does a better overall job of taming the pitch and chuck. My new trailer was a different pin box so could not transfer the 5th Airborne. I bought the Moryde and am happy with it for the price. There are also other more expensive systems which claim additional cushioning.
You should also consider the Dexter wet bolt set up for the springs. I did this before changing the pin box and noticed a difference right away. This also adds a dampening affect with the rubber piece in the spring hanger. There are also more expensive systems you can install at the springe which may work better. Again, you get what you pay for.

I'm leaning toward the 5thAirborne. For $200 more get the air bag with the vertical damping.
I had wet bolt kit installed on the previous Cougar. Then traded it on the Montana.
I will get a wet bolt kit on the Montana, and different tires, and a TPMS before next spring.

I installed a Trailair Tri-glide and am extremely satisfied with the results. It is amazing to look in the review mirror and see the trailer moving up and down, back and forth front to back, and not feel any movement in the truck. Granted, my unit (Fuzion 395) weighs 15,540 lbs loaded, so it may be different with a trailer of lighter weight. One other note for those who have or are considering a tri-glide. I was concerned about the angle of the pin plate when the air bag was inflated to the line on the shock. I contacted ultra-fab (manufacturer) and spoke with an engineer. He stated that was a reference point. However, to get the best ride to only inflate the air bag until the pin plate was level as this would assure the correct dampening of the front to rear movement.
Thanks, Ken
