Price & Towing

I am considering a 2013 or 2014 New 27RBSWE Cougar Travel Trailer What is a good price on one and can I tow it with a 2013 F-150 with the to pkg and a 8000 pull limit, it has the trailer brake, coolers on the trans and radiator, slip diff rear end.
Thanks.

For prices on that RV, your best bet is to Google it and you will end up with numerous sites you can visit to check and compare prices. Doing that will give you a pretty good idea what you can expect to pay. You may get a few responses here but far more by doing a Google search.

Members who tow with the F150 will be able to provide you with their towing experiences.

IMO That is too much for a 1/2 ton pu. I've towed that about with a 1/2 ton and it wasnt fun. (32' long, near 8000 lbs) It's just right for a 3/4 ton F-250.

I have that trailer and it has a heavy toungue weight at 940 lbs. Dry. My truck tows it with ease and can still do 55-60 up hills but I have a3/4 ton diesel. I could imagine that your 150 would struggle with that trailer behind it. It also is 33' 5" long total. If it was me I wouldn't try it with a half ton.

The tow package on the truck only gets you up to 8000 lbs, not beyond it. If you load the trailer to capacity, you are at that limit. Actual tongue weight is likely to exceed 1000lbs. Add to that the weight of the hitch, passengers, gear, and you are probably over the payload capacity of the Truck. I pulled an Outback 277RL with a Tundra, but the truck was rated to pull 10,000 lbs. My F250 does much better. I would look at less trailer or more truck.

Are you sure your tow rating is only 8,000lbs. I thought it would be much higher with the tow package. My 2010 super crew 4X4 does NOT have the tow package and is rated close to that.

Even if the tow rating turns out to be more, the 1000 lb tongue and WD hitch is really going to eat into the payload rating.

No questions, statically hitch and all the bars will add to gross combination weight. However, WHEN TENSION BARS GET ENGAGED and setup is correct, 10-15% of the weight goes from the tongue and TV back to the trailer axles which sweetens the pill considerably. According to my latest CAT scale report 2650BH with 1/3 tank of water and some stuff adds no more than 550 lb to the payload (hitch weight of unloaded trailer is 540 or 590 lb).
1/2 ton vehicles may come with 1500 or more lb of payload allowance, but may be with quite ridiculous 950-1000 lb. Check your driver door sticker

I have a 2012 Laredo 291TG, similar specs about 6500, and 800 on the hitch dry. I haven't weighed it loaded, but I added 2 6V batteries up front, and that and full propane and water, I'm sure I'm over 1000 on the hitch. I'm running a 1200lb equalizer hitch, so some of that goes to the front axle, but it is still weight on the truck.

I tow it currently with a F150 Ecoboost super crew 4x4 short bed w/ the max tow package. It tows pretty good, I've put about 7000 miles on the combo in the last two years. All in the Midwest and east coast, but I have pulled it through the mountains of western PA, VA, & TN. My only real complaint is the lack of engine braking on the ecoboost, it requires a lot more brake pedal than I'd like going down hill... Otherwise the truck pulls the trailer quite well. The max tow package pushes the tow rating up to 11000, and upgrades the payload capacity (on my door sticker it is just over 1700). You can tell you have max tow if you have the telescoping mirrors with the full width convex mirrors below the flat mirror surfaces. You might want to check your door sticker for the payload capacity as well.

I wouldn't be towing my trailer without the max tow.

Despite all this, the braking and the fact that the truck is basically maxed out on payload I'm considering a bigger truck in the near future, especially with a trip to Colorado and Wyoming in the planning stage...
