Reese goose box adjustment

I currently have a Reese goose box on my 2021 24 RDS. Clearance to the rails are 7 1/2” to 8” but I am nose high and running 20 psi. If I add air it will go to 8 1/2”. trailer is off by 2 inches from front to back. Trying to find out how many inches in drop if I move my wing set one bolt hole. Does it swing down or does it all move horizontally down. What’s the minimum adjustment that I can get on the heights adjustment. The manual looks like it’s 2 inches which might be too much.

I don't know the answer to your question but I'm hoping someone will be able to answer it. My 2021 24RDS showed up yesterday and they are putting the Reese goosebox on today. I'm curious as to what your tow vehicle is. I will be pulling mine with a 21' Silverado 2500HD 4x2. That you should post your question on the same day the Reese is going on my trailer is serendipity at it's finest.

The goosebox is attached to the trailer pin box using 4 or 5 bolts on each side. If you remove them you can move the goosebox straight up or down. It all depends on which holes they used on the goosebox. If it’s all the way up in the pin box then you can’t move it.

I think I had better be there when they put the darn thing on. It seems like the OP's rig would be just right if it drops him two inches and he adds air to the Goosebox. Assuming he has the adjustment, wouldn't that put him at 6 1/2" clearance?

OP here. I’m towing it with a 4X4 2020 F250 short bed. When they installed mine the first time we were not level and I did not have much
Clearance in the tailgate area 4 1/2” to 5”. Was concerned with thought it would be better to lower the bolts pattern and get the extra height. But after all is said and done and on level ground if I put more than 20 pounds of pressure in I’m riding to high for the trailer to be level. I must submit I do like the clearance but I think The trailer will tow better. I ran it up to 30 after I went and weighed it the other day and got a lot of rocking front and back. What I’m trying to find out is what’s the smallest adjustment I can make I can always put it back to the lower setting and add a little hight to the ball.

How Nose high are you? The goosebox will only adjust by whatever the spacing is on the mounting holes, there is no other adjustments that I’m aware of.

I believe there are different height goose balls, you could get some adjustment there also.

Yes, shop around for gooseneck balls.
I have the 20K model and am quite happy with it.

Goosebox Info

My Goosebox sits 7" above truck bed. I use the lower ball, not extended ball. I keep 30-40 psi in the Goosebox, which I can't tell any difference. My truck is an F350 long bed. It was mounted in the same holes that the original pin box was in. Picture below. Hope this info helps you.

What I’m finding is when I add air to the bladder it raises the front of the trailer 2 inches or more and anything over 20 pounds it start getting the front too high. As I sit with it at 25 pounds of pressure I am currently 2 inches from the front of the trailer to the back measured on the frame from being level

2” isn’t bad IMO.

True, 2 inchs isn’t bad however my research shows that the Best ride for cushion is around 35 to 45 pounds. So.... change the height to get the front down and add 10 to 15 more pounds of pressure that would be close to the 2 inch high it now has and will give me more cushion. This is what I’m trying to find out, is what is the actual high differential when you change one bolt pattern. Thanks again for all the replies

Finally took my 24RDS home from the dealer. The dealer had the Goosebox set at 60 psi. I drove a few miles like that and it was painful. Chucking and bouncing. I pulled into a parking lot and bled it down to 35psi and it was night and day! Who knew 15 psi would make that much difference! As far as being level, I'm about an inch high so I'm going to leave well enough alone. The clearance above the rails is about 7.5 inches.

One last observation. I can see that this would be a bear hooking up if you don't have a bed view camera. I had ordered my truck with one but it showed up without. Long story, anyway I bought the Furrion Observation camera, the one they suggest you hook up over the doorway for security. I made a back plate for it, put a bracket on the camera and another on the back of my bed cover box. I rigged up a cable long enough to reach the 4 pin trailer connector in the bed of my truck for power. It gives me such a clear view of the ball and hitch that hooking up is a breeze.

60 to 35 psi is a 25 psi or about a 40% difference if my rusty mind on the right side is working.

I shouldn't admit this , but I don't know what the psi on my Goosebox is set at. The mechanic may have mentioned it when it was installed but dang if I remember. Maybe 45? That may be a project for me to do this afternoon. Anyway I couldn't be happier with the ride on ours. Betty even said she couldn't tell the trailer was back there. Well it ain't THAT good.
When I ordered this truck I somehow missed checking the box for the cargo camera. I had it on the previous SRW and really didn't see that it helped much with a conventional 5th hitch. I "line up" on the rear seat center headrest to get centered. Depth is an issue. I just guess and then open the door and stand on the running rails to check.

I think I'm the one that needed the coffee! You're right of course. It did make a big difference though. I do have a follow up question on the Goosebox sight gauge. I can see the bar running through the window which is supposed to tell me when I am at the correct inflation. Does the bar move according to the weight put on the pin? Say for instance you have 2000lbs on the pin you would adjust according to the position of the bar in the window and 2500lbs would move the bar to a different position you would adjust to? That seems right and I do know the bar was not centered at 60psi but was centered at 35psi. I should have checked the position when I dropped the trailer at the storage facility this afternoon but was busy unloading etc. and forgot to look.
