TPMS in Lexus

Ok, Full disclosure I am NOT familiar with the new (2007 Mandated) TPMS systems on cars/trucks. We just upgraded from a 2004 Honda accord and 2005 Mercury Mariner to a 2016 Kia Soul and a 2009 Lexus RX350.

NO issues with the Kia, but the Lexus is a different story. When the DW bought it she was all gaga that they put a new set of tires TPMS light came on in 2 days. She took it back and they did something and it stayed off for another week. Door pillar tire placard states 30 PSI, Tire sidewall states max inflation is 46 PSI.

I know mileage is better at 46 than 30, but can any TPMS guru give me a high school lesson on this stuff. I have read a lot and I know about checking battery level and such. Looking at buying the AUTEL TS501 as it will work on most all tpms systems.

My real question is how can I determine what the PCM/BCM says the pressure should be and can I CHANGE it?

You may have to go to You Tube or a Lexus forum for that one. Good luck.

As Tom mentioned, specifics on how to change TPMS thresholds may be best found on a Toyota or Lexus enthusiast forum.

Not that it will help, but with all 3 of my FCA vehicles, I purchased an android app and OBD2 BT adapter and can manipulate pressures thresholds as well as dealer controlled PCM settings (DRLs, tires sizes, activating non-factory options, etc). Best $49 I spent on my Chryslers. My RAM's thresholds are locked down from the factory at 65/80 PSI. Now, the dash isn't lit up like a x-mas tree when I air down when not towing.

Thanks. I Actually got a response from AUTEL and they said what ever is on the placard on the door pillar is what it is and cant be changed without a bidirectional tool.....TOO MUCH $$$$. don't even know if Lexus can change it. Looks like more searching or phone calls as You Tube wasn't that much help. I have learned a lot though.

Check the spare. I just read that some Toyotas (even Lexus) have TPMS on the spares.

Will do. I wish I could take her car in and watch what they do. I’m probably going to buy the tool I mentioned since i do still work on cars. Can’t afford the OTC bidirectional tool @ $2500.00.
