EZPass MD

I traded in my Suburban and got a Chevy 3500 SRW. I was going to swap my transponder registration on-line but there was no drop down for a 1 ton truck only up to 3/4 ton (Can/Should I use this 3/4 drop down). Is the 1 ton now a different class (higher tolls)?

Also can you get a separate transponder to cover you when pulling a TT or use the same one?

That's a good question. I know of one family that just uses the one for their TV and goes through the Ez pass lanes. They only get charged the car rate when I go through the cash lanes and pay the higher multiple axle fees. I don't think that's right but I've not heard of the correct way to do it either. I'd sure like know the right way to do it. I'm interested in saving money too.

EZ-pass knows how many axles you have at the time you go through. I have been using it for years and it has worked correctly in booths and express lanes. As long as you have a single rear wheel 1t your toll is the same as a 3/4 t plus or minus the trailer. Do not use a transponder for a passenger car. EZ-pass does not weigh vehicles it just counts axles. Be sure to obey hazmat restrictions for bridges or tunnels and lane restrictions for weight and axles. (Left lane mostly) Get the transponder for the 3/4t and enjoy not having to stop for every toll.

I live and MD and have a MD EZPass on my one ton truck. I just put it in on drop down as pickup and go with it, been that way for years. BTW not sure if I misread your post but you do not need new ezpass just to change vehicles, just update tag number in your EZPASS account. Also from experience after getting hit with a Video toll fee...........make sure your camper tag number is listed in your account, I think Other is a type option if not just use passenger car. that will cover you if transponder does not read you will only get billed the normal toll then since tag number is on the account

This has me thinking now. We're heading to FL with our camper. I have an EZ Pass for the car. I should probably log in, transfer it to my truck and add the trailer ahead of our trip. I'm guessing there are tolls between NC and Key West but I'm not 100% positive.

Fla. turnpike uses Sun-pass and does not recognize EZ-pass. EZ-pass from Md. north.

Grrrr. Of course they don't. Thanks for letting me know.

Is it worth getting a Sun-Pass for one trip down and back?

3/4 ton, 1 ton, in all probability they'll never notice, even though the 1 ton is considered "Commercial" regardless of how it's used. If you're paranoid, cover or remove the 3500 labeling. As long as you pay, they could probably care less.

Just don't make the mistake that my Bro in Law made. He was trailering his broken down H-D on a landscaper, and forgot to put the bike's transponder into the special marlock bag they provide. You guessed it! Every time he went thru E-Z Pass he got charged for the tow vehicle and the trailer.... plus the toll on the bike! LOL!!!

Good Luck!

When I upgraded, same thing, no 1 ton choice. They had 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton and one that just said pick up. I just clicked on pick up and left it at that. Also the web said that they would hand calculate the toll from the picture they take so I didn't need to get a second unit for when I am towing. We have ez pass from NH.

I have Ny Ezpass a white one for truck a slim blue one for towing 1 axle camper and a blue one for 2 axle camper that way you avoid commercial rates.
make sure the ones not in use are in the metallic sleeve it comes with.

iN Maryland there is no toll difference between commercial and no commercial vehicles only toll difference is number of axles.
Also there is no difference in MD for 1, 1 1/2 ton, 2 ton trucks etc they are only commercial if they are used for that purpose.
