We have literally never even been camping. Now we own a 2020 Alpine 3400RS pulling it with a Silverado 2500 Duramax. We’re excited but there is a lot to learn. We are counting on you all to help us through this!

First, WELCOME to the forum! Lots of great folks here with tons of knowledge and willing to share so fire away with the questions. Good to have you aboard.

WOW! Never been camping? You guys sure jumped in big! If you've never towed larger RVs just keep in mind that you have a 15,000lb. trailer. That requires a substantial tow truck so you might want to do some searches and look into the capabilities of that 2500.

Appreciate the concerns about the truck. Thought a lot about that and researched to try to get it right. GCWR is 27,500. Diesel seems to have power to spare. Should be covered. Took practice run today and spent a few hours backing into a 12 foot wide lane. Glad I didn’t have an audience for that! I’ve got a few weeks to practice before our maiden voyage.

Be sure and do some searches; maybe post the numbers from the driver door stating payload, gawrs etc. GCWR is actually just one number that has to be adhered to ….and is one of the harder ones to hit. Check those numbers and look for payload and vehicle gvw...might be EYE opening.

Payload will be your issue. That is a 15K RV. Loaded light your pin would be 3K. That is all your payload. That doesn't consider the weight of the hitch or anything else in the truck. Every item that wasn't in the truck when it came off the line must be subtracted from the payload.

Question, is the hitch weight posted by Keystone (2,410) at shipping weight or at its loaded capacity?

Shipping before batteries or propane. Usually it is 20-25% or the RV weight when you are loaded and traveling. If you load yours to 15K which is the GVW then you will be 3,000-3,750LBS. I have a 15K trailer and I am at 3,200-3,300LBS depending what we load.

Hitch weight posted by Keystone is meaningless. It didn't include your propane batteries etc. from the gitgo. Then you and anything/everything you do/add to the trailer. Meaningless. Unless you load it fully (truck/trailer) and run it across a scale you must use 20% of the gvw as the "pin" weight. Numbers will be much different but real world.

Edit: Tech740 has posted real life numbers that are consistent with your situation. My previous 3/4 ton, dispensed with at the end of 2019, had a payload of 3200. I purchased a new 5th wheel with a gvw of 14,500 and could/would not tow it with it. I have a new 3500.
