My fridge is on the inverter. It was also on the load side of the bathroom GFI. If yours is similar check that the GFI is not tripped. That happens sometime on power up and down.

There are so many different brands, models and types of refrigerators out there. Can you share what brand, and what model? I will go out on a limb and guess it is a gas/electric model?

And if that is true, the fridge not working on electric after unplugging the camper would be expected.

If it's a gas/electric RV refrigerator, does the refrigerator work on Gas.

The electronics in the Gas Absorption type refrigerators used battery DC power to control the electronics, regardless of it's running on AC 120 volt or propane.

My knowledge is limited to 12v refers but those have fuse down in the back by the compressor, the refer needs to be removed to get to this, but if it is running on 120V, then it isn't the fuse.

Your trailer, the 2018 Cougar 28SGS fifth wheel comes standard with a Dometic 8 cuft Dometic gas/electric refrigerator. Looking at your post, if read "literally as you wrote it", then the refrigerator is operating as designed. When the trailer is "unplugged from shore power" there is no 120VAC to operate the electric function on the refrigerator and it is "designed to automatically switch to gas power". In the "AUTO" mode on the refrigerator eyebrow control board, you will see the LED's illuminated when on shore power, but when unplugged, the LED's do not illuminate (to conserve battery power). As long as the "CHECK" LED is not illuminated, the refrigerator should be operating on LP gas power.

There are two fuses for the refrigrator, both are mounted on the refrigerator control board, located on the back of the refrigerator, behind the lower vent panel, on the lower left side of the refrigerator, behind that black plastic cover. KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE IS VOLTAGE ON THAT BOARD and if plugged into shore power, you risk electric shock and possible death with that cover removed.

If the above is not the question you have and the answer to the "hypothetical question" then please explain further what you are experiencing.
