2nd AC

I just bought a new Alpine 2012 3600rs. I want to install a 2nd ac. The trailer is prepped for it with 50ampmy service with a dometic 15k main unit with a dual zone capable dometic thermostat. This model is ducted so which unit will work with the existing thermostat the dealers seem to give me different answers especially after I tell them I will install if but seems like there has to be one that works with existing system.

The second A/C is not connected with the existing ductwork as neither A/C unit is designed to work into pressurized ductwork. You can operate the second unit via either the built-in or an external thermostat, although I think most just use the built-in thermostat to avoid having to run more wires. I find that two units work fine when in operation even if you don't have them formally tied together.

2nd ac

I have a 3400 rl and just got off the phone with a dealer. They told me that I could go either way. But hooking into the duct work would be more expensive.

I wouldn't suggest trusting what a dealer says (ever! ). I would ask the manufacturer of the A/C unit.

This will probably not answer your question, but will hopefully give you some insight. I got the second Dometic A/C factory installed. It is "Zone 2" on the thermostat. It does connect to the ceiling duct work, though one can easily disconnect it by moving a slide knob to dump cold air into the bedroom. It does contain a relay which connects to the rear heat pump a/c unit. And in my case, it connects to the Onan Energy Command 30 and shares that control through the relay to the back unit. When my unit was delivered, the dealer found that both the rear and forward units were both connected to the same side of the breaker box. The dealer moved the bedroom a/c to the other side of the breaker box so both units would not be on the same power leg.

I hope this will give you at least something to think about.

I'll have to look. I will be at the Alpine on Friday, so I'll post it then.
