Just to test? I’d recommend a Digital Volt Meter (DVM). It’ll help you troubleshoot your DC, AC, and ground connections.

I’ve not heard of this brand before, as I generally use Flukes, but it had a ton of good reviews:

I to like Fluke brand and you can find a few options at Sears with many price points. Good luck with your search.

If you're looking for a test meter, then Fluke makes a very reliable line of test equipment. If you're looking for a voltage monitor, there are several made that simply plug into any 110- outlet in your RV and will monitor polarity and voltage. CW has several ranging from $12 to over $60. Adventure RV has one that I have and I feel very comfortable just glancing at it once in a while to see what the input voltage is and if there's any issue with polarity.

I might add, I also carry a test meter to troubleshoot, but it's a PITA to pull it out and start poking test leads into outlets just to see if things are OK. Your choice, but you can check out the monitor at this website:

Fluke T-5 should be able to get one for about $100. Auto ranging auto Ac-DC contunity, current simple to use and does it all and nearly bullet proof.

Thanks for the great info...I have a cheap craftsman DVM that would work(didn't think about that) but I'll follow that link to get one of those 110 plug-in types...

I have the power monitor and I just plug it into an outlet near the kitchen so I can keep an eye on it. esp if the A/C is going or the microwave saved me a time or too if the gauge drops and I need to turn something off before it blows up

Meters

A plug in voltage monitor is nice to have, it will help in assisting to diagnose lifted neutral problems like the horror show that was on the list server a few days ago. Keep it plugged in and mounted on the wall.

As for a general purpose meter, I have used many over the years as an electronic engineer but one really caught my fancy. Sears has a clamp on meter which measures the usual stuff (AC,DC volts, resistance, AC amps) but this one does DC amps, a highly useful function. It also has a Jk thermocouple for measuring temp from 0 degrees to 500+ degrees, I other words useful for checking the Aircon and the oven.

It was a little over $100 if I remember correctly. HIGHLY RECOMMeNDED!
