New tow toy!! Ram 3500

Traded in my 15 250 for a 2016 Ram 3500 dully. Loving it so far. The dual wheels and extra pay load make a world of difference !

Nice looking truck even though it's a RAM I switched from an F250 to an F450 and agree on the dually part, it's the way to go.

Moomba I have that hitch too, great hitch, I love it. can take it in and out myself if I take the top off and take it out in two pieces. I have some questions about your fuel tank. I have considered one. How much? brand etc. How does it work with the existing fuel tank.....miles to empty, etc. I am curious if your gauge stays on full until the aux tank is empty from the gravity feed, can you turn it off with a lever, etc. Thanks!

It works great!! It is a RDS tank. Northerntool.com is the best place I found to get it. The one I have is around $500 and install kit around $70. U cut a tee in to metal fuel neck and fuel gravity feed from tank. Truck shows full until aux tank is empty. I had this tank in my f250 also. I installed both of them. About a one hour job.

I've got a 2015 (doesn't have the Asian). We just hit 8700 miles.
It appears that the factory oil will last 15k, if you go by the indicator on the truck. I thought that was a bit too long, towing a 15k trailer, so I decided to change it.

The thought was to put in a drain valve at the pain, so I could start doing oil analysis and actually determine (eventually) when I should be changing it... Draining it and adding the valve was the easy part.

Getting the factory filter off of that truck is miserable. You need to remove the intake (vacuum side) inlet to the turbo, which comes off in 3 pieces. It can be done, but isn't a lot of fun.

The filter then has to be turned off from the top and it's on upside-down. That's the hard part - getting at it from the top of the motor.. I bent an oil filter wrench (albeit not a great one) before buying a new wrench. Even then, I had to climb into the engine bay (literally) to get enough force to remove that filter... It took everything I had to get it off.

Factory filter is known for being tight, so you might want to let someone else deal with that first one. Doing it myself cost me about $70 (3 gallons oil + filter).... Plus a tool. I heard dealer estimates of $140...

Waiting a little longer to do the fuel filters, they're at about 48%.

I think I'm in on the external tank, but I've got a short bed, so trying to decide which one...

my dealer chanes my oil for $69 which is hard to believe so cheap. By the way its the shorter of 15,000 or 6 months, but I am a very low mileage driver so I go past the 6 months. Only 8100 miles on mine in 22 months, lol.

You get a Mopar filter and 3 gallons of what oil for $69? My understanding is that the factory fill is Valvoline Premium Blue (15w-40), which even at a volume discount is going to run $18/gallon or so...

Around here $120+ for a factory oil change...

First liar ain't got a chance....I called my dealer and asked how much labor for a Cummins oil change? $10.
I'll be running Shell Rotella T5 syn blend 15w-40, of course. Stocking up on it...$15.18 a gallon from Amazon.

Those prices seems very cheap. Oil and filter change (rotella) along with both fuel filters and rotate tires run me about 450 I think it was the last time

Nice truck by the way and you will love the hitch!

I only average around 10k a year on my truck. I normally change oil twice a year. And fuel filter once a year.(prolly overkill)Also the aux tank I have I had in a short bed 250. RDS offers vertical tanks and toolbox/tank combos also. Sometimes tank and shipping is cheapest on Amazon .

Is that at the dealer or an oil change shop?
I'm going to try to alternate the tire rotation and fuel filter changes so I can sorta "even out" my maintenance bills.

I know it isn't a Dodge but I have my F350 serviced by a dealer and oil & oil filter change is less than $150 with full synthetic and every other change I have the two fuel filters changed as well... $240

Both prices include rotating tires and a bath...

Our old ('01 Dodge 2500 CTD w/ 185K) finally bit the dust this week so we are also new to the dually club. '16 Ram 3500 DRW Laramie 4X2 w/Aisan. Never had a problem with the old rig with stability and pulling hills, etc, but this truck is a whole new ball game. The DW says she may even drive it. We pull a '14 Montana 3100 RL which with the old truck weighed just over 22,000 lbs. This 3500 almost doesn't know its back there.

Congrats! We just went from an F350 SRW to a Ram 3500 DRW a few months ago and I am very happy with the switch. Found a 2013 in Dallas with only 7,000 miles on it for an incredible price. It was well worth a one way ticket on Southwest and a day and a half of my time to get it and drive it back to SoCal. Very pleased with how it tows and how it rides. I, too, went with the Companion hitch in the factory prep. The only remaining thing I can't make my mind up about is whether or not to put a set of air bags on it. With my Raptor hooked up, it squats pretty good, but I'm still level or a bit tail high. But I'm wondering if the bags will help with ride quality. Anyway....nice truck...enjoy!

Oh...one more thing that I found out recently (in the manual and at the dealer) - under routine maintenance, the severe duty recommendation is to change the differential fluid at 15,000 miles. What's severe duty? I don't know...but the dealer said 'towing something heavy and towing it a lot'...whatever that means ;-)
