"Gearhead" seems to be an appropriate moniker for you. 👍🏻

Limited slip is often one of those things overlooked when dealers get trucks for a lot display. Don't know why that happens, but buying a 2WD or a 4WD pickup without an LSD is a real disservice. I don't know how many folks I assisted in getting unstuck in the north Tahoe area who had 4WD and couldn't figure out why they got stuck. It was obvious their rig didn't have it and they had no clue what a limited slip diff was.

Back in the old days when there was more month than there was paycheck, us east Texas rednecks realized a 2 wheel drive with good tires and limited slip was "almost" as good as 4x4. Nothing like getting stuck deep in the woods in a 1 wheel drive pickup with street tires on Sunday night and needing to be at work Monday morning.

Dealer called this morning...truck is here. Went to get it this afternoon. The usual excitement about a new vehicle, and slight disappointment. Payload is less than "advertised". I was expecting about 4200 based on Ram brochures and website. The yellow tag is showing 4018, which is about 800 more than the Ford and 300 more than GM. That gets me legal regarding payload and with some breathing room. I'll scale it empty in the next few days. I'm good and can quit worrying about being over weight.

The yellow tag is often different then the advertised weight due to installed options. sounds like you still have quite a bit of room to play with
also you only have 200lbs more than me available, not 800 ....

My F350 yellow tag showed 3267.
I think the full length steps, whatever the bedliner spray weighs, and the 5th wheel prep has to be what pulled it down.
Ram had a separate listing for the Aisin which pulled 150 off payload of the regular auto.

Yup, mine says 3800. It's all about the equipment. I have the 2 door model with 6.5 bed
Probably gives me a little more payload capacity.

Just buy a dually and get it over with. They ain't as scary as some would have you believe. After you tow with one and drive it around a week or two all the scary goes away and you realize that it isn't any different than that SRW since the fenders are still inside the mirrors.
The DUALLY IS VERY SCARY!!!! every time I went to buy tires, I broke out in a cold sweat. First set was 1200 otd in Oregon.. 2nd set was 1600 for the same brand.... I went to the Dodge SRW...Air suspension... Pulls like a hot knife going thru butter... Much better than my 04 Dually did. My old truck pulled our hill leaving town at 52 mph.. New Truck pulls same hill at 65.. Horsepower is of NON MEANING TOWING.. Torque is King... My SRT8 Challenger has 425 horse... but won't pull the Montana like the cummins...with 385 hp..

So you are comparing a 12 year old truck to a new one...LOL I would hope you would notice the difference.

Well, I use Michelin tires on my trucks and right now I can get 6 out the door for $1450... Although in my experience it is unusual to purchase all 6 at the same time, most of the time you replace the front tires a good while before the rear.. They're $205 a tire (today) so yes it is more expensive.. but a SRW just don't haul them big trailers the same..

My 2014 (see signature below) has a payload of 3975. I've had the truck for a little over a year and couldn't be happier. Bought it new, 26k on the odometer and counting.

First pull with the Ram. From Liberty TX. to DeRidder LA. to Vidalia, LA. It had 800 miles on it and the owners manual said it breaks in better if it's worked in the first 6,000 miles. So I worked it some. I think I put 600 miles on it towing.
The factory 5th wheel prep with the Curt legs and hitch worked good.
Looks like it will pull the bay boat Tuesday or Thursday. Highs of 78F and winds SE at 7.
edit add: Riverview RV Park on the big river in Vidalia is OK. Concrete pads & gravel roads. Trees. Good view right on the river.

That yellow tag/door sticker shows the allowable payload from the factory, without "dealer installed accessories". So adding nerf bars, "steps", bed liners, hitches... and so on, lowers your payload. At 3267lb payload, subtract weight of steps, bed liner and hitch that will give you the "net" payload available.

Dodge 3500 SRW payloads?

I ordered my ram with full length steps, spray in liner and fifth wheel prep and yellow sticker reads 4074lbs. Since it came from factory with all that the yellow sticker should be available payload after all those things, no? I have weighed it several times (with and without my toy hauler) and it seems pretty close

All factory installed options are calculated into the yellow door sticker, so yes if it was installed at the factory with those options they have already been figured into the yellow sticker. Things you or the dealer add after it leaves the factory would not be reflected in that number.

Everything except the hitch was factory installed on the Ford, same with the new Ram.
