where to stay for a month on the gulf coast or california coast
We plan on going to either the gulf coast or the California coast for a month this winter. We live in Saskatchewan and would like to go to one park and stay for a month-using it as home base and not pull the trailer again until the long trip home.
We like sites with some room so you aren't just looking at the service bay of the next trailer. Some trees would be nice, would like to be on or near the water.
We don't care about "activities" at the park, but cleanliness and friendly atmosphere are great. We have two small dogs and our trailer is 35'.
Since we have never been to either area I am hoping we can get some advice so we can pick the park and make reservations and not keep moving around to find a nice park.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You're not going to find such a park on the coast around Los Angeles (too few trees, too little space). In San Diego, there's Campland, but it's really heavy on family activities. It's well taken care of, but pricey.
For the money, I bet you'll do better in Florida. Unless you're willing to compromise and be a half hour or more away from the (California) coast.

I bet the south Texas area will be a better value. I haven't been to any of the Rv parks, but can give you a general "feel" of the area. The south Texas valley area is frequented by many "snowbirds". In the past many folks would go across the river to Mexico to shop and dine. Probably not too much of that anymore. There should be a lot of RV parks to choose from in the McAllen, Harlingen, Brownsville area. South Padre Island National Seashore is nearby. Lots of bird watching activities if you are into that. Weather should be quite mild. San Antonio and Corpus Christi would be a short drive away.

Pismo Coast Village or Pismo Sands RV Park. Coast Village is the more congestd of the two, but, is right on the beach. Pismo Sands has more grassy areas between the sites and is less 'busy', about 2 miles to the beach. Both would make good base camps for the central coast area. However, they may have length of stay restrictions.

Pismo Coast Village is *only* nice if you get one of the north end sites. The south half is a parking lot. And I *really* dislike their "we'll try" attitude when trying to reserve a north end site. They don't offer site # guarantee. We did stay there in a north end site and really enjoyed it, but I'm uneasy about their lack of site selection. It's a small walk to the beach.

South Texas in the winter is a great place. You should at least give South Padre a try and come visit us in San Antonio. With Fredricksburg and Austin just a short drive from here there's lots to do and plenty to see between the three. Not to mention we're the Mexican food capitol of the US!
