About Screen Names

I post on a half dozen RV forums under different names. I keep my post files under user names. I've found it’s easy to know what forum I posted in by the file name.

When I joined this forum I had just quit playing on-line competitive cribbage. I’m probably one of the higher ranked players in any of the numerous on-line originations. As such, it was getting exceedingly hard to get a game. So, after 15 years of such competition I quit. That was about the time I joined this forum so I just used my cribbage game name; CWtheMan. I was on RVNET as FastEagle for a long time but changed it to CALandLIN.

My most used forum names has been FastEagle. In 1977/78 I was a flight deck coordinator for Navy Fighter Squadron 41 aboard the USS Nimitz. As such I carried a communication radio to talk with my squadron maintenance department and the flight deck/hangar deck coordinators. All squadron flight deck coordinators were identified by the squadron call sign. Mine was Fast Eagle.

I also use BlackAces, VF-41 nick name. Airdale, my military area of expertise. MRCW, another cribbage related name. TireHobby, in a tire forum. Also used infrequently, CALandLIN, CalandLinda & CALinSC.

My picture; F-14 Tomcat launching from the USS Nimitz.

I'm old and forgetful and I doubt it will get better but hopefully while I forget everyone else's name I will remember mine. Hence Bob R(last name)

bob

ETA: CWtheMan, I was onboard the USS Forrestal when the F14 first did carrier trials. I was off before they became operational but I did work in a VAST shop at NAS North Island supporting the brand new S3A and some F14 parts they would bring down from Miramar.

I've caught some "grief" over the years for my screen name. In the last couple of years I've had two different RV related forums that the Admin messaged me about suspending my acct. until I changed my user name.......so here is the deal, and it is NOTHING related to anything other than motorcycles....which have been a major part of my life since 1971.

So back in 2002, I bought another Honda Motorcycle. The model was a CBR1100XX Blackbird, commonly just called an "XX" or "Bird". I then joined a CBR1100XX online forum and tried to register as "XXrated". Since that user name was already taken, I chose to use "xrated". Almost every single forum I've joined over the years, I've joined as "xrated".....other motorcycle forums, gun forums, Ford truck forums, and then finally, after I bought my first camping trailer in 2016, RV forums. I've explained several times in the "introduction" section of some of these forums, and also to some Admins, the reason for my choice of user names. Most of them, after explaining the reason, were OK with it. One forum in particular was NOT OK with it....I guess there are narrow-minded people everywhere and common sense and reasoning just simply do not matter to them. "We are a family friendly forum" they say. And one forum admin that "allowed" me to keep my user name of "xrated", replied to me...."We will be watching your postings, and if there is anything posted that we deem unacceptable, you will be banned". Of course they never did, because I was on the forum to learn and to help others with RV related stuff.

Anyway, that's my story and there is simply nothing more to it than what I stated above.....it's the first user name that I selected when I started joining internet forums that were motorcycle (CBR1100XX) related.

I was right behind CWtheMan on Nimitz - came aboard with VAW-112 for the 79/80 Med to I/O cruise where we flew/supported the Iranian Embassy Hostage rescue operation.

My username most everywhere on the 'net was simply an extension of computer system usernames Before The Internet (BTI) ... first initial last name.

Nice pic, CWtheMan, I loved the Tomcats, but sometimes didn't love their crew's inability to follow someone else's direction, but that's a sea story for another time.

Old photo from that cruise.

Spade was a nickname from my younger tagging days. When the internet started and I was creating an email address, the 117 was added as that was the first available. Every online forum since that has been my username. I also try to use this same avatar on all of them as well. Even have a tattoo of it as well.

wiredgeorge is a nic from my days as a member of a motorcycle club. Now I am old and ride a Goldwing trike with the missus but the name stuck. I use it on almost every forum and it is part of my business name; wiredgeorge Motorcycle Carburetors.

In 79/80 I was TAD to CAG8 and worked in flight deck control as their night shift coordinator.

About Screen Names

tbos is first initial and first 3 of last. Nothing fancy or special. In the Navy everyone called me bos until I made Chief.
